Igrot Kodesh · Letter 530 — General

By the grace of Hashem,

3 Tishrei* 5710,

To the distinguished Chassid*, who fears Hashem,

Rav I.[1],

I greet and bless you,

I am responding to your wishes on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah*.

Whoever bestows a blessing receives one himself, the interest of which exceeds the principal. You will therefore be definitively inscribed for a good and sweet year.

One can note the indication thereby given, especially on Rosh Hashanah, according to tractate Horayot* 12a[2]. It is indeed the beginning and the head of the year. Now, the head contains within it all the limbs of the body and distributes vitality to them.

So it is on Rosh Hashanah, as the beginning of Ateret Rosh* explains at length. And when Shabbat* begins[3], severity disappears and Jews are crowned with new souls, according to the Zohar*, volume 2, page 135.

May Hashem cause all of this to be revealed, openly, throughout the entire year.

וסימנא מילתא היא, ובפרט בר"ה (הוריות יב, א). - והרי תחלת וראש שנה זו, שבראש נכללים כל האיברים, וממנו נמשך חיות כל האיברים, וכ"ה בר"ה (עט"ר בתחלתו באריכות) - הנה הוא כד עייל שבתא, דכל דינין מתעברין, וכל ישראל מתעטרין בנשמתין חדתין (זח"ב קל"ה), ויה"ר שיומשך כל זה בכל השנה בגלוי, בטוב הנראה והנגלה.
