To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem
and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

After a long interruption, I received your letter from Shushan Purim*, together with its contents. May Hashem grant that you continue to give me good news of your personal achievements and your communal accomplishments.

As a timely matter, it is appropriate to distribute Matzah Shemurah* — in particular, to soldiers. This year, the number of those who receive it must exceed that of previous years. Indeed, you have made the acquaintance of new people and established contact with them.

Furthermore, there will be this year an enthusiastic Chassidic gathering (farbrengen*) (see note 2), surpassing those of previous years. Indeed, there is a general principle that one ascends in the domain of holiness.

Of course, these words are addressed to all those who devote themselves to this spreading (see note 3). You therefore have the authorization and even the duty to transmit this message to all, for time is short.

I was pleased to receive the initial reports on the celebration of Purim* at Kfar Chabad*. No doubt, as is systematically the case, you will remain in permanent and ever-broader contact with those who came to visit there. And one will surely be able to use this contact to spread and strengthen Yiddishkeit*. In this instance, they themselves, or at least a large number of them, should receive a kazayis* (see note 4) of Matzah Shemurah*.

The tzedakah* of three hundred and eighty-five (see note 5) should be placed in the fund of the network (see note 6). Of course, it is positive for you to devote yourself to all of this in the proper manner — meaning, by ensuring that all those who are in charge do not disturb others by encroaching on their domain. Certainly, there is no reason to imagine that it would be otherwise, since all act "for the sake of Heaven."

This tzedakah* is particularly important and its merit protects all who devote themselves to it. Consequently, it is quite evident that you should continue to devote yourself to all of this. Hashem will grant you success.

I am surprised that the number of participants at the Chassidic gatherings and the classes for yeshivah* students is not increasing as it should. It would be good for all those who devote themselves to this activity to consult discretely, in order to find the means to remedy this.

לאחרי הפסק הארוך נתקבל מכתבו משושן פורים עם המוסגר בו ויה"ר שימשיך בבשו"ט הן בעניניו הפרטים והן בענינים הכללים ובזה הענין שהזמן גרמא חלוקת מצה שמורה ובפרט לאנשי הצבא, שמוכרח ששנה זו יתרבה מספר האנשים שיקבלו זה מאשר בשנים שקדמו, שהרי הכירו ובאו בקשר עם כמה חדשים, וגם ההתעוררות ערה בשנה זו יותר משלפני' נוסף על ההוראה הכללית שמוכרח הענין דמעלין בקדש דוקא. ומובן שדברי בזה הוא לכל המתעסקים בדבר, וברשותו וגם זכותו למסור זה לכולם שהרי הזמן קצר.

שמחתי לידיעות הראשונות אודות החגיגה דפורים בכפר חב"ד, ובטח כמו בכל הענינים ישאיר קישור מתמיד והולך ומתרחב עם אלו שביקרו שם, שבודאי תהי' האפשרית לנצל קישור זה להפצת היהדות והחזקתה, ובכגון דא בטח גם להם, עכ"פ חלק חשוב מהם, יש להמציא כזית מצה שמורה.

צדקת שפ"ה יש להכניס לקופת הרשת, ומובן שלרצון התעסקותו בזה באופנים המתאימים, כוונתי באופן שלא יבלבלו העוסקים בזה האחד לחבירו ע"י כניסה בגבול השני, אף שבכלל אין כאן מקום לחשוש כיון שכוונת כל אלה ה"ה לשם שמים, וצדקה זו ענין נעלה ביותר שזכותה מגינה על המתעסקים בה, ומזה פשוט שימשיך גם להבא בכזה והשי"ת יצליחו.

לפלא שמספר המשתתפים בהתועדות ובלימוד מבני הישיבות אין מתרבה כדבעי, ומהנכון הי' שהמתעסקים בזה יתייעצו באופן חשאי איך לתקן הדבר.
