To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,
who possesses fine qualities and manifold accomplishments,
carrying out a divine mission,
Rav David (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

You have informed me that you have rented an apartment near the school in which you carry out your sacred mission — that of educating children in Jewish values, teaching them a Torah permeated with the fear of Hashem, and training them in the observance of the mitzvos*. Here is my response.

May Hashem bring to fulfillment in this home the statement of our Sages that "a beautiful home grants a person a broad spirit" — or, in the Rambam's* expression, "a pure spirit," and, in the terminology of Chassidus*, "the superior spirit." In this way, the following saying of our Sages will be fulfilled: "If you have acquired wisdom, what do you lack?"

Accordingly, the furnishings of this home, everything pertaining to it, and all who dwell in it will merit being the residence of the Celestial Man. On this subject, you should consult the Tikkunei Zohar*, Tikkun 6, page 22b.

Such is the role of every Jew, man and woman, who must build for Hashem a dwelling place in this lower world, as it is stated: "They shall make Me a Sanctuary, and I shall dwell among them (see note 2)" — that is, "within each and every Jew."

One confers merit upon days that are, by nature, propitious, since it is in this period that you have built your home and that your marriage was celebrated, at a good and fruitful time.

The Creator of man will make your home an eternal edifice, founded upon the Torah and the mitzvos, permeated with Chassidic light and warmth.

במענה להודעתו אשר שכרו דירה בסמוך להמוסד בו מכהן בקדש, לחנך בני ישראל על טהרת הקדש, על ידי לימוד תורה חדורה יראת שמים והדרכה בקיום מצותי'.

יהי רצון שיקוים בבית זה מאמר רז"ל דירה נאה מרחבת דעתו של אדם, דעת טהור בלשון הרמב"ם, דעת עליון בלשון תורת החסידות, שעל ידי זה מתקיים פתגם חז"ל דעת קנית מה חסרת.

שאז יהיו גם כלי הדירה וכל עניני הדירה והדרים בתוכה, ראוים לדירת אדם העליון כביכול (עיין תקו"ז ת"ו כב, ב).

שזהו תפקידו של כל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל לעשות לו ית' דירה בתחתונים, וכמו שכתוב ועשו לי מקדש ושכנתי בתוכם, - בתוך כל אחד ואחת מישראל.

ומגלגלין זכות ליומין זכאין, ימי בנינם בית בישראל, ימי חתונתם בשעה טובה ומוצלחת.

אשר יוצר האדם יתקין בנינם בנין עדי עד, מיוסד על התורה והמצוה חדורים אור וחיות חסידותי.
