and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Eliezer (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I received, with pleasure, your letter from Erev* Rosh Chodesh* Nissan*, the month of miracles and redemption. You briefly describe your actions aimed at drawing the hearts of the children of Yisrael* closer to our Father Who is in heaven. The lot that divine Providence has entrusted to you is enviable!

You know the saying (see note 2) of the Baal Shem Tov*, according to which every Jew, man and woman, is dearer to Hashem than an only child to parents who had him at an advanced age. One can conclude from this the great reward that is thereby obtained, and above all, the fact that "a mitzvah* draws another mitzvah," for "the reward of the mitzvah is the mitzvah itself" — since a person receives the means and the opportunity to redouble their efforts in these areas. In addition, you will obtain the satisfaction of your needs and those of your family members.

I read with pleasure, at the end of your letter, the tribute you pay to the Chabad movement. This strengthens my hope and my conviction that you will study its teachings and adopt its practices, one of the essential points of which is the dissemination of these teachings, until they reach the outside.

The Mishnah* (see note 3) states that "one who gives and leads others to give is a Chassid." Likewise, you will benefit personally and you will make all of this known to others. Each of us, within all of Yisrael, has received the assurance that "if you walk in My statutes" — that is, according to Rashi's* interpretation, based on the Sifra*, "if you invest your efforts in the Torah" — "I will give you your rains..." and all that is mentioned in the Parashah*.

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all of this, and for a kosher and joyous festival of Pesach*,

בנועם קראתי מכתבו מער"ח ניסן, הוא חדש הנסים והגאולה, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מפעולותיו בקדש המקרב לבן של בני ישראל לאבינו שבשמים, ואשרי חלקו שהשגחה העליונה העמידתו עליו, וכידוע פתגם הבעש"ט שכל אחד ואחת מישראל הם אצל אבינו שבשמים חביבים יותר מאשר חביבותו של בן יחיד שנולד להוריו לעת זקנותם, ומזה מובן גם כן גודל השכר והעיקר הענין דמצוה גוררת מצוה ושכר מצוה מצוה שנותנים להאדם היכולת והאפשרית להוסיף חיילים בענינים האמורים, נוסף על מילוי צרכיו הפרטים שלו ושל ב"ב שיחיו.

נעם לי לקרות בסיום מכתבו אודות ההוקרה לתנועת חב"ד שזהו חזק תקותי ובטחוני שיעסוק בתורתה ובעניני' שאחד מהעיקרים בזה הוא הפצת מעינות תורה זו עד שיגיעו גם חוצה, ועל פ מאמר המשנה יתן ויתנו אחרים חסיד, ועד"ז יהנה ויהנה אחרים, וכבר הובטח כל אחד מאתנו בתכ"י, אם בחקתי תלכו, ופירש רש"י ע"פ הספרא שתהיו עמלים בתורה וכו' ונתתי גשמיכם גו', וכל הדברים האמורים בפרשה.
