To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*
and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Mordechai (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you briefly describe your life. You also refer to your attachment to Chassidus* and to the Chassidim* (see note 2).

You know the royal word of our holy masters, reproduced in the HaYom Yom*, on the date of 24 Sivan 5703, according to which: "True attachment is through the study of the Torah. When one studies my Chassidic discourses and reads my talks, when one attaches oneself to the Chassidim and to the yeshivah* students in their studies and in their gatherings, when one accedes to my request to recite Tehillim* and fixes a time for study — one is truly attached."

Likewise, if we all study the same discourses of our holy masters, if we endeavor to uphold the principles they established — and the most fundamental point — if we spread the wellsprings of Chassidus, its customs and its practices, we will all, together, be attached to the tree of life, to our holy masters, going back to the Alter Rebbe*, the Maggid of Mezeritch*, and the Baal Shem Tov*, of whom it is stated: "I stand between Hashem and you," for they are the intermediaries connecting us to the Essence of Hashem.

Consequently, I took pleasure in learning from your letter that not only are your sons within the four cubits of the Yeshivah Toras Emes*, but in addition, you yourself have fixed a time to study the teachings of Chabad, you publicly teach Chassidic discourses, and you endeavor to spread the wellsprings (see note 3) by visiting Jewish settlements (see note 4) that, for the time being, remain outside all of this.

It is certain that this approach will strengthen your attachment and will enable, above all, this attachment to manifest itself in daily life, in all areas, as it is stated: "In all your ways, acknowledge Him." And how wondrous are the words of the Rambam*, in the fifth of his Eight Chapters, according to which the purpose of everything concerning a person is the perception of the Divine! You should consult this text.

We are approaching the time of our freedom — freedom from everything that obstructs the service of Hashem with joy and enthusiasm, in abundance.

At a propitious moment, I will mention your name and those of the members of your family at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit shields us, together with your positive actions in these areas. Thus, each of you will surely receive the blessing of the One Who gives the Torah, Who vivifies life, in all your needs, material and spiritual.

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all of this, of the continuation of your actions of spreading the wellsprings, of the increase you will make in accordance with the injunction to ascend in holiness, and for a kosher and joyous festival of Pesach*,

במענה על מכתבו, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מתולדות ימי חייו, וממשיך בהנוגע להתקשרות לחסידות וחסידים.

והנה כבר ידוע דבר מלך רבותינו נשיאינו הק' "ההתקשרות האמיתית היא ע"י לימוד התורה, כשהוא לומד המאמרי חסידות שלי, קורא את השיחות ומתחבר עם ידידי אנ"ש ותלמידי התמימים יחיו בלימודים ובהתוועדותם ומקיים בקשתי באמירת תהלים ובשמירת זמני הלימודים הנה בזה היא ההתקשרות" (הועתק בהיום יום כ"ד סיון ה'תש"ג) ועד"ז כשכל אחד ממנו ילמוד אותם מאמרי דא"ח ומשתדל בשמירת תקנות נשיאנו רבותינו הק' ובעיקר העיקרים יתעסק בהפצת המעינות הם מעינות תורת החסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי', במילא מקושרים נהי' יחד באילנא דחיי ע"י רבותינו נשיאינו עד למעלה בקדש רבנו הזקן המגיד ממעזריטש הבעש"ט וכו' אשר עלי' נאמר אנכי עומד בין ה' וביניכם, ממוצע המקשר בעצמות ומהות א"ס ב"ה.

ובקשר עם זה נעם לי לראות במכתבו אשר נוסף על מה שבניו שי' היו בד' אמות דישיבת תו"ת, הנה גם הוא יש לו קביעות עתים בתורת חב"ד, חוזר מאמרים שלה ברבים, ומשתדל בהפצת המעינות חוצה ע"י ביקורים במושבות בנ"י אשר לע"ע מבחוץ הם מהנ"ל, שבטוח שע"י כ"ז תתחזק ההתקשרות עוד יותר, והעיקר שתפעול פעולתה בחיי היום יומים ובכל הענינים, וכמה שנאמר בכל דרכיך דעהו, ומה נפלאו דברי הרמב"ם (פרק ה' משמונה פרקים להרמב"ם) שהתכלית בכל עניני האדם היא השגת השי"ת, עיי"ש.

והרי מתקרבים אנו לזמן חירותנו, חירות מכל הענינים המבלבלים לעבודת השי"ת בשמחה ובטוב לבב מרוב כל.

בעת רצון אזכירו ואת כל ב"ב שיחיו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ופעולותיו בענינים האמורים בודאי תעמודנה לכאו"א מהם להשפעת ברכה מנותן התורה מחי' החיים בהמצטרך להם בגשמיות וברוחניות.

בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור ובזה המשך פעולות בהפצת המעינות והוספה בזה כהציווי דמעלין בקדש ולחג פסח כשר ושמח.
