Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter with pleasure. I thank you for thinking to send me a report of the emissaries' visit to Ayanot. I am pleased to note that the contact was positive and good, on both sides, so that they wished to designate Shabbos* Parshas Shekalim* as Chabad Shabbos at Ayanot.

Nevertheless, according to the Chabad conception, one does not postpone a good thing for an entire year, particularly during a decisive period. Indeed, twelve months in our day are the equivalent of far more than that when the situation was normal. And if this is systematically the case, how much more so for youth, the age when the personality is in the process of formation. In such a case, what happens a year earlier plays a role in what will be accomplished several years thereafter.

In any event, I hope that this was a good beginning for bringing hearts closer on the basis of our Torah*, of which a great principle is: "Love your neighbor as yourself." This is also what the Seder* highlights, according to its standard arrangement, which brings together four children having diametrically opposed conceptions around the table of the father who makes known to all of them the view of the Torah.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו, ות"ח על שימת לבבו לשלוח לי דו"ח על דבר בקור השליחים בעיינות. ושמחתי שהרושם ההדדי הי' חיובי וטוב, עד שבקשו לאשר קביעת שבת פ' שקלים לשבת חב"ד בעיינות.

ברם על פי שיטת חב"ד אין דוחים דבר טוב לשנה שלמה, ובפרט בתקופה של הרת עולם, אשר שנים עשר חודש בזמננו ערכם כמה פעמים ככה לגבי שנים כתקונם. ואם בכלל כך, על אחת כמה וכמה כשהדבר נוגע לטובת הנוער, בגיל אשר בו נקבעת צורתם, שאז אינו דומה מה שעושה שנה קודם שנקבעה הצורה לפעולת כמה שנים לאחרי זה.

ובכל אופן תקותי שהיתה התחלה טובה לקירוב הלבבות על יסוד תורתנו, שכלל גדול בה ואהבת לרעך כמוך, וכמו שמודגש בהתחלת סדר פסח כהלכתו בקיבוץ ארבעה בנים בעלי השקפות שונות מן הקצה אל הקצה מסביב לשלחן אבא, המודיעם, את כולם, מה שדברה תורה.
