Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of the second day of the Omer* (see note 1), with its enclosure, and I have just received the newspaper "Post" that you published on the occasion of the festival of Pesach*. You ask me that its content not be disseminated, and of course it shall be done according to your will.

In this connection, you mention in your letter someone who, in several of his books, fights in particular against various concepts of Chassidus* and even, in various domains, against the faith — or, in the words of the Mechilta*: "not only against Moshe, servant of Hashem*, but also against Hashem Himself and His Torah*." And even in chapters that seem neutral, there can be a confusion of ideas, particularly among the youth in the United States. And who knows whether, subsequently, one will have the opportunity or even the means to bring them back to the truth?

I have explained elsewhere (see note 2) that in the United States and, more broadly, on the American continent, ignorance dominates — a total lack of knowledge — unlike what previously existed in Europe, where only impious groups held heretical ideas. It is therefore not appropriate to polemicize — that is, to mention a false idea in order to prove that it is mendacious, fallacious, and utterly useless. Quite the contrary — this results in great confusion and disturbance. This is self-evident.

At a propitious moment, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit shields us. May Hashem grant that you give me good tidings concerning them. And it is surely unnecessary to remind you that, inasmuch as you are the one transmitting their requests, it is incumbent upon you to explain to them that the more they strengthen their commitment to the Torah and the mitzvos* — since the Torah is a Torah of life, and of its mitzvos it is said: "One shall live by them" — the more the wishes of their hearts will be fulfilled.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מב' לעומר עם המוסגר בו, וז"ע נתקבל גם המכ"ע פאסט שהו"ל לחג הפסח, ומובן שמ"ש שהחומר המוסגר לא יתפרסם, ימלאו בקשתו.

דא"ג במכתבו מזכיר... ובודאי למותר לעוררו שבכמה מספריו לוחם נגד נושאי החסידות ועוד ועוד, ובכמה ענינים גם נגד האמונה, וע"ד מאמר המכילתא לא רק נגד משה עבד ה' אלא גם נגד ה' ר"ל ותורתו, ואפילו באותם הפרקים שהם לכאורה פארעווע, עלולים הם לבלבל את המוח בכלל והנוער דארצוה"ב ביחוד בעניני דיערות עד שמי יודע אם אחרי כן תהיה האפשרית או גם היכולת להעמידו על האמת, וכבר מלתי אמורה בהזדמנות אחרת, שבארצוה"ב ובכלל בחצי כדור התחתון שוררת עם הארצות, ז.א. העדר ידיעות לגמרי ולא כמו שהיה לפנים באירופא שבחוגים החפשים היו דיעות כוזבות, ולכן לא זו הדרך להשתמש בוויכוחים, ז.א. שמזכירים ג"כ דיעה נפסדת ומוכיח שקרה וכזבתה ואין כל צורך בזה ואדרבה היזק גדול ובלבול, וק"ל בעת רצון אזכיר את כל אלו שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בהנוגע אליהם, ובטח למותר להדגיש שכיון אשר ע"י פנו בבקשות, עליו להסברים שככל שיוסיפו בתורה ומצות שהתורה היא תורת חיים ועל מצותי' נאמר וחי בהם, יתוסף במילוי משאלות לבבם בהנ"ל.
