Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 26 Nissan* and I thank you for this good news — the organization of a committee for the benefit of the yeshiva* and the first preparations for the annual dinner. In this connection, you asked me in your previous letter about the songs (see note 1). Here, one endeavors not to sing those that may cause differences of opinion and disputes. And if one song leads to another that is also controversial, it too is avoided.

It therefore suffices to explain that the purpose of the dinner is not to take sides with anyone in a controversy, but solely to find means of financing an institution that serves all currents, which must therefore all come to its aid and strengthen it. There is no reason to exclude anyone from among the donors to this institution.

Naturally, it is preferable to prevent this question from being placed on the agenda. One should continually postpone the moment when it will be debated, for even the response stated above is not accepted by everyone. Indeed, the will orients intellectual analysis (see note 2). This is self-evident.

With my blessing for considerable success in your sacred mission and to convey good tidings,

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ו ניסן, ת"ח על הבשו"ט מהתארגנות הועד לטובת עניני הישיבה וכן מההתחלות ההכנות לדינער השנתי... ובקשר עם זה ושאלתו במכתבו הקודם בענין הניגונים, משתדלים כאן שלא לנגן כלל הניגונים שיכולים להביא חילוקי דיעות וסכסוכים, ואם נגון אחד גורם ומשך אחרים המביאים לחילוקי דיעות, הרי גם אותו אין מנגנים. ובהסברה שאין תכלית הדינער וכיו"ב לקחת חלק במחלוקת זו לאיזה צד שיהי' ורק מטרה אחת בו (בהדינער) לבסס מצב מוסד המביא תועלת לכל החוגים, שבמילא כל החוגים מחוייבים לסייע בידו ולהחזיקו, ואין לרחק את מי שהוא מהמשתתפים בחיזוק המוסד.

מובן ופשוט שהטוב ביותר להשתמט מהעמדת שאלה זו על סדר היום בכלל (לדחות הדיון עד"ז מפעם לפעם וכו') כי אפילו מענה הנ"ל לא הכל מקבלים אותו לאמיתתו, מפני שהרצון מטעה שכלם, וק"ל.
