Greetings and blessings,

I refer to your letter from Rosh Chodesh* Iyar, with its enclosure.

In accordance with your request, the name of this woman — may Hashem* grant her long life — will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit shields us, so that she recover speedily and have a child.

You will surely find the appropriate words to explain to her, as well as to her husband, that it is indispensable for this purpose to observe the laws and principles of family purity, according to the teachings of our holy Torah* and its mitzvos*. In her situation in particular, this will have the virtue of bringing her what she currently needs.

It is surely unnecessary to specify to you what explanations you must give in this matter. Indeed, various texts detail this extensively. I would, however, like to emphasize one point, although it is clearly stated in a verse: "Man is limited by the vision of his eyes." Therefore, when one has a doubt about the effect of one's words, one cannot establish what the truth really is, for only Hashem has this power. Indeed, He "probes the heart." Moreover, our Sages emphasize that even if "I sleep in exile" — superficially or profoundly — "my heart is awake for the Holy One, blessed be He, His Torah and His mitzvos."

It therefore suffices to find the appropriate words, to pronounce them warmly, so that they emanate from the heart. This has been said concerning all Jews. Most react in this manner, and one should presume that this is indeed the case.

With my blessing to convey good tidings,
