I greet you and bless you.

After a long interruption, I have received your letter of the eve of Shabbos*, with its contents. You ask me whether your son's studies must necessarily be conducted in Yiddish or whether they can also be conducted in English.

Now, you and your wife know Yiddish. Furthermore, your son's study day at the Cheder* is very short, in accordance with the custom of this country. It would therefore be good for you and your wife to work on accustoming your son to Yiddish and its comprehension. And at the Cheder, as long as he does not speak Yiddish fluently, he should speak in whichever language he handles best at present, in order to acquire knowledge.

No doubt you will take advantage of the luminous day of the Hillula* of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai (Lag BaOmer*, the 18th of Iyar), to the fullest extent possible, to spread the wellsprings (of Chassidus*) and to strengthen Judaism in general.

Additionally, you inform me of your son's birthday. May Hashem grant him a year of success in the fear of Hashem, ardor, and constancy in the study of our Torah, Torah of life. You and your wife will derive from him and from all your children much Chassidishe* nachas*.

לאחרי הפסק הארוך נתקבל מכתבו מעש"ק עם המוסגר בו, ובמ"ש אם יקפיד שהלימוד עם בנו שי' יהי' דוקא באידיש ולא באנגלית.

הנה כיון שהוא וכן זוגתו שיחיו יודעים אידיש, ושיעור שעות הלימוד של בנו בחדר מצומצמות הן ביותר כמנהג מדינה זו, נכון שהתרגלות בנו לדבר אידיש ולהבנתו, יתעסקו בזה הוא וזוגתו תחי' ובחדר עתה עד שיתרגל באידיש, ילמוד באותה השפה שרגיל בה יותר למען לרכוש לו ידיעות עוד.

בטח ינצלו יום הבהיר הילולא דרשב"י ככל האפשרי להפצת המעינות ולהחזקת היהדות בכלל.

ולהודעתו מיום הולדת בנם... שי', יהי רצון שתהי' שנת הצלחה אצלו בעניני יראת שמים והתמדה ושקידה בלימוד תורתנו תורת חיים, והוא וזוגתו שיחיו ירוו ממנו ומכל יו"ח שי' רוב נחת חסידותי.
