To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, who devotes himself

to communal needs, of manifold accomplishments,

Rav Yaakov (Rav Y. Peles, of Tel Aviv; see Letter 5365) and his wife, Mrs. Rachel,

I greet you and bless you.

I received with pleasure your two letters of 18 and 20 Iyar. I was pleased to read that the reunion of the former students of the Yeshivah of Kishinev (see Letter 5365) was a success. And without a doubt, this success will multiply your efforts to ensure the reunion is followed by action — that is, to develop the Yeshivah Achei Temimim* of Rishon LeTzion to the fullest extent possible.

The reunion itself, as you write, awakened memories of the past, when you were within the four cubits of the Halachah*. And it is certain that these memories will lead to action. But furthermore, the reward of a Mitzvah* is the Mitzvah itself — in this case, the development of education based on sacred values, the fear of Hashem, the revealed part of the Torah, Chassidus*. And the Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure" but in vastly increased proportion. All those who make efforts in this direction and contribute their part will therefore be blessed in all their needs. And they will derive, in particular, genuine Chassidic satisfaction from all their children.

Of course, in this matter as in many others, the reunion and its success are comparable to plowing and planting. Indeed, when a seed is placed in the earth, it must be watered, and precisely at the most propitious moment, in order to give rise to a tree bearing good fruit. Similarly, one must take advantage of the propitious character and motivation of the reunion's participants, so that the resolutions be followed by action and even expanded. How much more must this be so for those who were unable to attend the reunion, for whatever reason.

May Hashem grant that here too you know success. And I emphasize that time lost is lost permanently, especially when it concerns education. For children and young people in general, an hour is much more important than for mature men or the elderly.

Awaiting your good tidings of all this,

P.S.: The article that this woman published in the press regarding the reunion demonstrates her competence, justifying wide dissemination. It would therefore be wise to make use of her abilities as often as possible. Indeed, our era demands that all forces and aptitudes be mobilized to strengthen and disseminate Judaism.

To the annual convention of the association of Chabad* women

and girls of the United States and Canada,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I bless you and greet you.

I hereby send my greetings and blessing to all those who take part in and contribute to the association of Chabad women and girls, on the occasion of their annual convention. May Hashem grant that the program of this convention, whose value is fundamental, be fully followed by action, that the accomplishments develop regularly and in an ever-wider manner. Indeed, the purpose of thought and speech is concrete action.

In accordance with the well-known saying of the Alter Rebbe* (see Letters 1873, 3259, and 4942), founder of Chabad — the name you yourselves bear (Chabad women and girls) — "one must live with the times," that is, with the content of the weekly Parashah*. May your convention therefore infuse vitality and enthusiasm, emanating from the source of life — our Torah, Torah of life, illuminated by Chassidus, the words of the living Elokim — into your accomplishments in general, and into those alluded to in the weekly Parashah in particular.

One of the points found in the Sidros* of Bamidbar and Nasso, between which your convention takes place, is their common theme — the Sanctuary of the desert and the distribution of roles enabling this Sanctuary to be transported from one place to another. This underscores that even in a desert, Jews have the strength to erect a holy place, a Sanctuary for the Presence of Hashem within Israel in general and within each Jew in particular.

There exists a desert in its material dimension — with extreme climates and foods, all manner of danger. But there is also a spiritual desert, where morally harmful ideas reign, yet which may be, materially, a country having the appearance of a lush garden.

The holy Torah therefore teaches us that, finding oneself in a moral desert, one can and must build a Sanctuary, transport it, and follow the steps of Divine Providence, until arriving at the Holy Land, blessed by Hashem, during the true and complete redemption through our righteous Moshiach*.

There is here a teaching for every Jew, but one applying in particular to women. It is known, indeed, that during the construction of the Sanctuary, women brought their contribution first, even before the men. In the moral desert that constitutes certain milieus, where emptiness and desolation reign regarding Judaism and particularly regarding Chassidus, you have the considerable and eternal merit of being among the first to build this Sanctuary, both here and within yourselves. I hope you will assume your fundamental mission with submission and enthusiasm.

I would particularly like to underscore the importance of devoting oneself not only to adults but also to the youngest children. Indeed, one can verify that a child's education in a certain direction begins very early. Thus, one is assured of having greater success, of bearing wider and better fruit.

May this blessing confer upon you success in your action, through which Hashem will broaden His blessing in everything that concerns you personally. In the formulation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us — each of us, within all of Israel, will receive the Torah joyously and in a profound manner.

את כל התכניות החיוניות של הועידה ,במעשים מתפתחים בהתמדה

ובפעילות מסועפת ביותר ,שכן ,תכלית המחשבה והדיבור הרי היא

מעשה בפועל.

בהתאם לפתגם הידוע של כ״ק אדמו״ר הזקן ,מייסד חב״ד ,שהן

נושאות גם שם זה ,ש״יש לחיות עם הזמן״ ,כלומר ,עם תוכן פרשת

השבוע ,יחדיר הכינוס שלהן חיים וחיות ממקור החיים ,תורתנו תורת

חיים ,כפי שהיא מוארת ע״י החסידות ,דברי אלקים חיים ,בעבודתן

בכלל ,ובעבודה על-פי ההוראות ורמזים של פרשיות-השבוע בפרט.

אחד הענינים בפרשיות במדבר ונשא ,שביניהן מתקיימת הועידה,

הוא הענין המשותף -אודות המשכן במדבר ואודות החובות שהתחלקו

בקשר להעברת המשכן ממקום למקום.

הדבר מדגיש ,שאפילו כאשר יהודים נמצאים במדבר יש להם הכוח

להקים מקום קדוש ,משכן ,לשכינה האלקית לשכון בישראל בכלל ובכל

יהודי בפרט.

בדיוק כשם שיש מדבר במובן גשמי -שממה ,בו שוררים תנאי מזג

שבגשמיות היא גן פורח.

מלמדת אותנו התורה הקדושה ,שכאשר נמצאים במדבר רוחני,

יכולים ,צריכים ומוכרחים להקים מקדש ,לשאת אותו ולצעוד בראש

בעקבות השכינה האלקית ,עד שמגיעים לארץ הקדושה המבורכת ע״י

הקב״ה ,לגאולה האמיתית והשלימה על ידי משיח צדקנו.

זו הוראה לכל בני ישראל ,אך במיוחד לנשות ישראל ,שהרי ידוע

שבהקמת המשכן הנשים נענו ראשונות ,עוד קודם לאנשים.

במדבר הרוחני של חוגים מסויימים ששוררת בהם שממה וריקנות

ביהדות בכלל ,שלא לדבר על אורח חיים חסידי בפרט ,יש להן את

הזכות הגדולה והנצחית להיות בין הראשונות להקים כאן בכלל וגם

אצלן משכן לו יתברך .והנני מקוה שימלאו את חובת חייהן במסירות

ובחיות.

במיוחד רצוני לעורר תשומת לב לנחיצות להתמסר לא רק

למבוגרים ,אלא גם לילדים צעירים ביותר ,שכן כפי שרואים במוחש,

כאשר מתחילים לחנך ילד בקו מסויים החל מגיל רך ביותר -מובטחים

בהרבה יותר הצלחה ובפירות גדולים וטובים יותר.

בברכה שתצלחנה בעבודתן ,שזה יוסיף גם בברכות הקב״ה בענינים

הפרטים,

ונבנוסף[ ,בנוסח הברכה של כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ

זי״ע -שכל אחד מאתנו בתוך כלל ישראל יקבל את התורה בשמחה

ובפנימיות.
