To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, who devotes himself to

communal needs, of fine conduct,

I greet you and bless you.

I was pleased to receive your letter of this Monday, in which you refer to the several people you have met and to your efforts to bring them closer to Torah and Mitzvos*.

In this regard, concerning the young man whose mother is Jewish but whose father is not — you have surely consulted a Rav to establish whether a certain form of conversion is not necessary in such a case, after of course having verified all the details. However, it is clear that you must continue to show him closeness, in the manner you describe, and even strengthen it.

The same applies to the other person to whom you allude, for ultimately our Sages have given us the assurance that one Mitzvah leads to another. Consequently, the more he fulfills, the more he will hasten the time of his Teshuvah* in other domains. You will also consult the Laws of Torah Study by the Alter Rebbe*, chapter 3, paragraph 4, and the Kuntres Acharon at the same reference. The Rav himself must involve himself in all of this, and for the Mitzvos it is certain that it must be so, as this text establishes.

I read with pleasure in your letter that efforts are being made to organize, in your area, a gathering for the benefit of Kfar Chabad*, a village founded and directed by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. It is certain that this will broaden the blessings of Hashem for what concerns you in general and for earning a generous livelihood in particular. It is regarding this (tzedakah*, which can be given while requesting in return Hashem's blessing in a certain domain) that it is said: "Please test Me in this matter... I will grant you a blessing..." (Malachi 3:10). Moreover, you are surely forging broad channels and receptacles to receive the blessing of Hashem in this domain. I mean that you are setting aside time to study the revealed part of the Torah and Chassidus*. May Hashem grant you success in announcing good tidings of all this.

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מיום השני, בו כותב אודות אחדים שנפגש עמם והשתדלותו לקרבם לעניני תורה ומצות.

דא"ג אותו הבן שאמו מבנות ישראל משא"כ אביו וכו', בטח שאל הוראת רב באם לא נצרך הנ"ל לאיזה ענין של גירות, כמובן לאחרי שיוודע הפרטים בזה, אף שכמובן צריך להשתדל עמו בכל הענינים אודותם כותב, גם להבא, וביתר שאת, ועד"ז גם עם מר... שי' שהרי סו"ס הבטיחונו רז"ל אשר מצוה גוררת מצוה וככל שיוסיף בעשיית מצות בפועל תתקרב ג"כ התשובה שלו על שאר עניניו, ויעוין ג"כ הלכות ת"ת לרבנו הזקן פרק דלי"ת סעיף ג', ובקונטרס אחרון שם, וגם הרב י"ל דצריך להכניס וכו' ובעניני מצות אין כלל ספק בזה כדמוכח שם.

נעם לי לקרות במכתבו אשר משתדלים ע"ד אסיפה בביתו לטובת כפר חב"ד מיסודו ובהנהלתו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר בודאי עי"ז מתוסף בברכות השי"ת בעניניו בכלל ובהרחבת הפרנסה ביחוד וע"ד שנאמר ובחנוני נא בזאת וגו' והריקותי לכם ברכה וגו' ובפרט [שבודאי] עושה ג"כ צנורות וכלים רחבים לקבלת ברכת השי"ת בזה, כוונתי קביעות עתים בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל האמור.
