By the grace of Hashem*,

27 Sivan* 5717,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

After a long interruption, I have duly received your letter of 25 Sivan*. I have already written to many people that it is regrettable to inform me of what has occurred only on the occasion of an unfortunate event. Consequently, if Hashem* wishes that there be an exchange of letters, which will lead to a closeness of hearts, there is no other natural recourse than to bring about such an unfortunate event. It would not be the same if one made an effort to write to me also with good news. One could then dispense with the unfortunate event, whose sole purpose is to achieve closeness of hearts, to strengthen love of one's fellow.

At a propitious moment, I will mention your name and that of your wife at the holy resting place* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit* protects us, so that your state of health may improve, so that you may convey good news of what concerns you, of what happens to your sons and daughters, of the activities you undertake in your surroundings to strengthen Judaism*, its tradition and its dissemination. And indeed, one depends on the other. For the Jewish people must be "a unique nation on the earth." In the expression of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, they must reveal the Unity in everything that pertains to the earth and to matter. This also implies unifying the material and spiritual dimensions of a person's life on this earth into a true unity. And nothing resists the will.

Awaiting your good news, of a good that is visible and tangible, in the areas you mention in your letter — and may Hashem* grant that this be so very soon,

לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ה סיון, וכבר כתבתי לכמה וכמה, אשר חבל שמודיעים על דבר הנעשה אתם רק בקשר עם מאורע בלתי רצוי, ולכן באם למעלה רוצים לסבב קשור מכתבים המביא סוף סוף לקירוב הלבבות, אין נראית דרך אחרת בטבע כי אם על ידי מאורע בלתי רצוי משא"כ באם היו מדייקים לכתוב בעת ישנה בשורה טובה, לא היו זקוקים למאורע הבלתי רצוי, ושאין תכליתו אלא קירוב הלבבות והוספה בהענין דאהבת ישראל איש לרעהו.

בעת רצון אזכירו ואת זוגתו תחי' על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להטבת מצב בריאותם ולבשורות טובות בענינים שלהם ושל הבנים והבנות שיחיו וכן מפעולתו בסביבתו להחזקת יהדות המסורתית והפצתה, אשר באמת זה בזה תלוי, כי הרי ישראל תפקידם להיות גוי אחד בארץ, ובלשון רבנו הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע, שימשיכו האחדות גם בעניני ארץ בענינים הארצים והגשמים, שבזה נכללת התאחדות החלק הגשמי והרוחני של חיי ימי האדם עלי אדמות שיהוו אחדות אמיתית, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
