Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter of 21 Sivan* and I thank you for it. Subsequently, I also received your two books, "Laws of the Shemitta* of the Land" and "Approaching the Seventh Year." I am grateful that you wrote to me in detail and thought to send me these books.

My time does not permit me to analyze what you write in the manner it would require, nor to make the connection between your analysis and the book Or HaHalacha* (note: by Rav Sh. Y. Zevin; see regarding this book, letter no. 5604). One may, however, ask why, regarding trees, there is no discussion of selling the land for a limited period (note: the Rebbe notes: "Of course, I am alluding only to this temporary sale, despite the risk of thereby contributing to the settlement of other peoples in the Holy Land, as argued by the Decisors who oppose this sale. On the other hand, this is not about permitting other forms of work, since such a sale retains an accessory value"). Indeed, the work carried out in the manner you describe requires a special permission, and according to several Decisors, a temporary sale is effective in this regard. In this way, one would also save those who, despite the instructions given, also perform work that has not been permitted. Due to our many transgressions, such individuals are present in various places, and one type of work leads to another.

I have written to Kfar Chabad* requesting that they contact you. You will surely grant them your assistance (note: presumably to prepare for the Shemitta* of 5719, 1958-1959), insofar as possible. I thank you in advance.

בתודה קבלתי מכתבו מכ"א סיון, ואחרי זה נתקבלו גם שני ספריו הלכות שמיטת קרקעות וס' קרבה שנת השבע.

ות"ח על כתבו המפורט ושימת לבבו לשלוח לי הנ"ל.

אף שאין הזמן גרמא לעיין בהענינים אודותם כותב ככל הדרוש, ובפרט לתווך למש"כ בס' לאור ההלכה וש"נ - הנה לכאורה צ"ע מפני מה בהנוגע לאילנות לא נזכר גם ענין מכירת הקרקע לזמן*, כיון שמהמלאכות הנעשות באופן שמתאר כת"ר זקוקים לסניף ההיתר, ולדעת כמה גדולים המכירה לזמן מועלת בזה, ועי"ז יצילו גם אלו שלמרות ההוראות יעשו גם ממלאכות שלא התירו, ושבעוה"ר נמצאים הם בכ"מ, כי מלאכה גוררת מלאכה.

כתבתי לכפר חב"ד שיבואו בקישור עמו ובודאי יתן להם עזרתו ככל האפשרי. ות"ח מראש ע"ז.
