You cite (note: this letter is addressed to Rav Shaul Bick and was written on his letter of 12 Tammuz* 5717; see also letter no. 5464) the notes of Rabbi Chaim Vital* on the Zohar*, volume 3, page 231a, according to which, before the era of Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakai*, Rosh Hashanah* was celebrated for only one day (note: and not for two days) in Eretz Yisrael*. Now, according to the Tosafos*, in Tractate Rosh Hashanah* 19b, this was already the case in the era of Ezra*.

But in fact, the Tosafos* acknowledge that what Ezra* did was entirely exceptional. Thus, the Gemara* states: "In the era of Ezra, one could not find..." The Zohar*, on the other hand, speaks of a permanent practice, "at all times." You should consult the words of the Alter Rebbe* in the Likkutei Torah*, at the beginning of the Chassidic* discourse entitled "He will revive us from two days."

You tell me that according to one opinion, even at the present time, Rosh Hashanah* should be celebrated for only one day in Eretz Yisrael*. The Halacha*, however, does not follow this opinion. Nevertheless, according to this conception, one can understand profoundly the formulation of Rabbi Chaim Vital*, who says that "in Eretz Yisrael*, there is nothing to fear." You should also consult the responsa of Rav Hai Gaon* in the Otzar HaGeonim* on Tractate Beitza*, chapter 1.

גם לתוס' הי' המאורע דעזרא יוצא מן הכלל בהחלט. וכהש"ס שם: מימי עזרא לא מצינו כו'. ובזהר מדבר ע"ד קביעות תמידית "בכל זימנא". - וראה לשון אדה"ז בלקו"ת רד"ה יחיינו מיומים.
