Greetings and blessings,
We have entered the days of which our Sages say: "Whoever adds receives increase" (note: from the 15th of Av onward, whoever intensifies Torah study receives increased vitality). May Hashem therefore grant that each person increase his practice of Torah* and mitzvos*, illuminated by the luminary of the Torah* — Chassidus*. And Hashem will multiply His blessings in all that is necessary for a person and his family.
We are likewise approaching (note: see letter no. 5644; an identical letter was sent to several people) the month of mercy — that of Elul*. The name of this month is formed by the initials of the verse: "a man to his friend and gifts to the poor." And as you know, our Sages explain in this regard: "'A Man' — this is the Holy One, blessed be He, as it is said: 'Hashem, Man of war.'" Then, all Jews are called My brothers and My friends. As for those who, outwardly, are neither brothers nor friends, they at least enter the second category — that of "gifts to the poor" — granted to those who "thirst for everything" because they find themselves in deprivation.
May Hashem fulfill the wishes of each person's heart, for good and blessing, materially and spiritually, "with a pleasant countenance and a smiling face," in the expression of the Alter Rebbe*.

שלום וברכה!
... וכיון שנכנסנו להימים אשר עליהם אמרו רז"ל שכל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, הנה יה"ר שיוסיף כאו"א בעניני תורה ומצות מוארים במאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות, ויוסיף השי"ת בברכותיו בכל המצטרך לאדם וביתו.
והרי גם מתקרבים אנו לימי חדש הרחמים, הוא חדש אלול, אלו"ל ר"ת איש לרעהו ומתנות לאביונים, וידוע דרז"ל איש זה הקב"ה שנאמר ה' איש וגו' וקורא הוא לבני ישראל בשם אחיי ורעיי, ואפילו אלו שאין בהם - בגלוי - עניני הסוג דאח ורע, נכנסים הם ודאי בסוג השני דמתנות לאביונים, אביון - התאב לכל דבר, כי חסר הוא כל דבר - אשר - בלשון רבנו הזקן - בסבר פנים יפות ובפנים שוחקות ימלא השי"ת משאלות לבב כאו"א לטובה ולברכה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
