To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shlomo (note: Rav S. Matusof of Casablanca, Morocco, see letter no. 5403),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 16 Menachem Av, together with its enclosure. You will surely see what I have written to the Chassid*, Rav N. Pinson (note: see the preceding letter), regarding metzitzah*. You will coordinate so that all of this is followed by concrete action as quickly as possible and in the most positive manner.

We have entered the period of which our Sages say: "Whoever adds receives increase" (note: from the 15th of Av onward, whoever intensifies Torah study receives increased vitality). Commenting on the verse "He declares His words to Yaakov," our Sages say that Hashem Himself fulfills what He asks Israel to do. May Hashem therefore bestow His blessings in all the needs of each person, within all of Israel — in accordance with the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that "the Jews will then show what they are capable of doing" — and they will increase, for Him, their commitment to Torah* and mitzvos*, of which it is said: "You shall thirst for the work of Your hands."

N.B.: It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the need to purchase books, in particular those of the library about which you spoke to me long ago (note: see letter no. 5563). You are surely attending to this to the fullest extent possible.

The sending of this letter was delayed, and in the meantime I received your letter of 28 Menachem Av, together with its contents. I also received, in due time, your letter of 22 Tammuz. It is perfectly clear that the obedience of students and teachers is a fundamental value for a school to fulfill its mission in a lasting manner (note: see the preceding letter). Indeed, the communal interest takes precedence over the individual interest. I asked you to have the letters addressed to everyone translated into the language of the country. I was referring to Arabic, not to French. That is surely the language the women speak, especially now.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מט"ז מנ"א עם המוסגר בהם, ובטח יראה הכתוב במכתבי להרה"ח הר"ן שי' פינסאן בהנוגע לענין המציצה, ויתייעצו יחד איך להביא הענין לפועל בהקדם ובאופן טוב יותר...

וכיון שנכנסנו לתקופה זו עלי' אמרו רז"ל כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, וע"פ דרשת רז"ל עה"כ מגיד דבריו ליעקב, שמה שהוא מצוה לישראל מקיים גם הוא ית', הנה יה"ר שיוסיף השי"ת ברכותיו בהמצטרך לכאו"א בתכ"י, וכפתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, וועלען דענסטמאל אידען ווייזען וואס זיי קענען ויוסיפו לו, ית', הוספה בתומ"צ, אשר עליהם נאמר למעשה ידיך תכסוף.

בודאי למותר לעוררו ע"ד ענין קניית ספרים, ובפרט ע"ד הספרי' אודותה כתב מכבר - כי בטח מתענין בזה כפי האפשרי...

מסיבה נתעכב השילוח, ובינתיים נתקבל מכ' מכ"ח מנ"א עם המוסג"ב. מכ' מכ"ב תמוז - בעתו נתקבל. וכ"כ ופשוט, שהמשמעת (של הת' והמורים) יסוד הוא בקיום ביה"ס מתאים לתפקידו. ותועלת הרבים דוחה תועלת היחיד.
