Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter belatedly. In it, you convey good news. You tell me that you took part in the campaign of disseminating the books of Chassidus* and that you met with success. You also report that you recited a text of Chassidus* publicly — a portion of the discourse entitled "Many waters cannot extinguish the love" (note: see Igros Kodesh, letter no. 4991) — on the day of your birthday.

You write to me that, in your life and in all that concerns you, you will do everything in your power so that it will indeed be so (note: that the many waters of worldly concerns cannot drown the love of Hashem). All the preoccupations of this world are defined as "many waters," which also includes the animal soul. Nevertheless, these cannot, Heaven forbid, drown the natural love that every Jew feels for our Father Who is in Heaven. This feeling enables the fulfillment of the 248 positive commandments, while fear is the source of the 365 prohibitions. This is how one puts the mitzvos* into practice, in a concrete manner. And "the matter is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to do it," as the Tanya* explains from chapter 17 onward. Everything depends only on your will. Our Sages* say that Jews are brazen among the nations. I therefore hope that you will use this determination not to be affected by all the obstacles and all the difficulties, to study with enthusiasm and ardor, to fulfill the mitzvos* in the best possible way. May Hashem grant you success.

ויהי רצון אשר מתאים לכתבו זה הנה גם בחייו ובעניניו הוא יעשה ככל יכולתו שיקבע הענין, אשר מים רבים הם כל עניני עוה"ז ומובן שהנה"ב בכללם ולכל לראש לא יוכלו ח"ו לכבות את האהבה שישנה בכל אחד מישראל אהבה טבעית לאבינו שבשמים, אשר אהבה זו שרש היא לקיום רמ"ח מ"ע ומצות היראה בכללה שהיא שרש לשס"ה ל"ת, והיא המביאה לידי עשיית המצות בפועל וקרוב אליך הדבר מאד בפיך ובלבבך לעשותו, וכמבואר בתניא פרק י"ז ואילך. ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצון וכיון שאמרו רז"ל שישראל הם עז שבאומות, תקותי שינצל התוקף שיש לו שלא להתרשם מכל מניעות ועכובים וללמוד בהתמדה ושקידה גדולה וקיום המצות בהידור, והשי"ת יצליחו.
