Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of this Tuesday, in which you tell me that obedience is not what it should be. You should consult the educators on the spot. Indeed, everything depends, to a large extent, on the disposition of the inhabitants of each country, particularly the young people. There is, nevertheless, one practice that can be common to all places. Certain students should be chosen to be responsible for discipline — precisely from among those who are not very obedient. To the extent possible, each one should be responsible for a month, for example. In this way, they will seek this discipline themselves, and the teaching of our Sages* will be applied in this matter: "The axe that fells the tree is itself made of wood."

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I hereby send you and all your family my blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

במענה על מכתבו מיום השלישי, בו כותב אודות חוסר המשמעת ככל הצורך וכו'.

בטח יש להתייעץ עם המחנכים על אתר כי הרבה תלוי בזה בתכונות נפש תושבי מדינה ומדינה והנוער שבו, וצד השוה בכל מקום הוא, להעמיד מבין התלמידים עצמם משגיחים על המשמעת, ודוקא מבין אלו שאינם מושמעים כ"כ, ואם באפשרי דאופן פרנס חדש וכיו"ב וכשיהיו הם המעונינים במשמעת הוא ע"ד מרז"ל מני' ובי' אבא לשדי בי' נרגא...

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
