Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of the 27th of Elul, the three preceding ones, and the request for a blessing for Rosh Hashanah*. I am surprised to receive from you, from time to time, and unfortunately with long interruptions, a letter filled with despair and sorrow. And it is even more painful to observe that you draw from this conclusions contrary to those that should be drawn. The same applies to this letter. You tell me that you have no patience. One of the reasons for this is your lack of activities. And from this, you conclude that you must stop. How deep is the darkness of the exile! You do not even see the dreadful contradiction between the conclusions imposed by reality and those you state.

I have already explained to several young men and to Chassidim* that each one must carry out his work. Then, Hashem will do as He sees fit — granting him success or not, which Heaven forbid. We have the merit, in this orphaned generation, of being able to observe with our eyes of flesh how the decision of the Heavenly Court is fulfilled — that Chassidim* must succeed in their work. Instead of this, and as if in defiance, one discovers, from time to time, pretexts to reduce one accomplishment or another. It is a pity that you waste time writing me such arguments, for I do not accept them in any way. If you yourself received from someone else a similar letter and you were not personally involved, you would have perceived this dreadful contradiction and would have totally rejected such a conclusion.

May Hashem grant that in the future, you and your friends will announce to me concrete actions. Complaints and grievances will no longer have a place within your four cubits. You will finally also eliminate from them that which is at the root of these complaints. The merit of the public and the immense compassion invoked by our holy masters will come to your aid.

With my blessing that you be definitively inscribed for a good year,
