To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Shmuel Pinchas (note 1: Rav Sh. P. Krinsky, of Dorchester),

Greetings and blessings,

I am sending you a copy of my letter (note 2: the preceding letter) to the leadership of the Nusach Ari Zal* synagogue, "Men of Lubavitch."

If it is not possible, in a pleasant and peaceful manner, to maintain our custom — explained in the Hayom Yom* at the date of 19 Kislev* 5703, according to which the chazzan* does not wear a tallis* for the prayer of Minchah* — you will at least obtain that he wear it on his shoulders and not on his head. The reason can be found in the comprehensive Machzor*, third edition, at the bottom of page 440.

In any case, these are communal leaders and men much older than you. One must therefore present them with apologies and ensure that they are satisfied. Moreover, you will obtain far more in this way than with a sharp reaction, for example.

ובאם אי אפשר בדרכי נועם ושלום להחזיק מנהגנו כמבואר בהיום יום י"ט כסלו תש"ג, דאין הש"ץ מתעטף בטלית לתפלת מנחה וכו', בטח יעלה בידו לפעול אשר הש"ץ יוריד הטלית על כתפיו ולא שיהי' על ראשו, והטעם מובן ע"פ המועתק במחזור השלם הוצאה שלישית, עמוד ת"מ בסופו.

בכל אופן בהביא בחשבון שהמדובר בהגבאים ואנשים באים בשנים בערך אליו, צריך הי' לבקש סליחתם, ובאופן שיהיו שבעי רצון מזה, ובפרט שבאופן כזה יפעול הרבה יותר מאשר ע"י חריפות וכיו"ב.
