To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, with numerous accomplishments, Rav Yoshua (note 1: Rav Y. Sheftman, of London; see on his subject letter no. 5695),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 13 Marcheshvan*, with the request for a blessing it contained, which will be read at a propitious moment near the holy resting place (Ohel*) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us.

You announce the attainment of the age of Mitzvos* (Bar Mitzvah*) of your grandson David, which was celebrated this Shemini Atzeres*, as well as that of your grandson Noach, which will take place on Shabbos* Parshas Vayishlach* (note 2: that year, the 14th of Kislev*), now approaching. You know the wondrous words of our Sages* concerning the Bar Mitzvah* (Zohar Chadash*, Bereishis 15:4), which are as follows:

"On that day, the righteous one must rejoice in his heart, as if he were entering under the wedding canopy (chuppah*). By this merit, the Holy One, blessed be He, will invigorate him and will joyously proclaim before him: 'Go out and see, daughters of Tzion.'" You will also consult the Zohar*, volume 2, page 98a, which applies to the Bar Mitzvah* the statement of King David, according to which Hashem said to him: "You are My son, today I have begotten you." All of this is explained by the Reshimos* of the Tzemach Tzedek*, at that reference.

May Hashem grant that for long days and good years, you derive true satisfaction — Chassidic* satisfaction — from all your children. This will restore to you the strength of your youth, so that you may act for the strengthening and dissemination of Judaism — a true and uncompromising Judaism, in the spirit of the Tradition of Israel.

Moreover, we are approaching the month of Kislev*, that of miracles, liberation, and the victory of "Your Torah* and the Decrees of Your Will," for "I have taken a Decision, issued a Decree. You are not permitted to question them."

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all this,

בו מבשר מהכנס לעול מצות של נכדו דוד שי' בשמע"צ העבר, וכן מהכנס לעול מצות של נכדו נח שי' בש"ק פ' וישלח הבע"ל, וכבר ידועים דברים הנפלאים של רז"ל בהנוגע לבר מצוה, וז"ל:

דההוא יומא חובתא על צדיקא למעבד חדוותא דליבא כיומא דסליק לחופה ובגין ההוא זכותא עתיד הקב"ה לאתערא להו ולעברא כרוזא קדמיהון בחדוה צאינה וראינה בנות ציון (זהר חדש בראשית טו, ד. ועיין ג"כ שם יו"ד ג, ד, ובזהר ח"ב צח, א. אשר על יום הבר מצוה נאמר, מאמר דוד המלך, שה' אומר לו בני אתה אני היום ילידתיך, ומבואר הענין ברשימות הצמח צדק על תהלים שם).

ויהי רצון שלארך ימים ושנים טובות יראה נחת אמיתי הוא נחת חסידותי מכל יו"ח שיחיו, וזה עוד יוסיף לכת"ר כח עלומים לעשות להחזקת היהדות והפצתה, יהדות האמיתית בלתי פשרות, יהדות ישראל סבא.

ובפרט שהרי מתקרבים אנו לחדש כסלו, הוא חדש הנסים והגאולה נצחון תורתך וחוקי רצונך, וכמבואר הדיוק בזה תורתך דוקא ולא חכמה סתם וחוקי רצונך, גזירה גזרתי חוקה חקקתי ואין לך רשות להרהר אחרי'.
