Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letters of the 6th, 10th, 12th of Cheshvan* and the two that followed. I read with pleasure that you are beginning to carry out your sacred mission within the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak* Lubavitch network in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, and that you do so even with increased ardor and renewed vitality. Ordinarily, in the world, one witnesses with time a weakening of this ardor and vitality, but I have good hope that the opposite will apply in what is, in this case, one of the fundamental Mitzvos* of our holy Torah*: "You shall teach your children" — that is, "your students" — in accordance with the Torah's* injunction that "one ascends in matters of holiness." And everything depends solely on the will, for it is said: "You can, but you do not want to."

As I have written and stated orally, it is self-evident that the current operating expenses of the network will be fully covered. One need only await the right moment. However, you write that one must not reduce the resources. Now, experience has shown the terrible consequences that result from this. After a certain time (note 2: regarding teacher competence in the network), one cannot explain how such sums were reached, as we discussed in person.

Naturally, I maintain my position that the separation of boys and girls is indispensable. One cannot compromise on this point. On the other hand, regarding the merging of classes, the question can be posed for each school based on its particular conditions and the predictions that can be made about the administration's reaction to these mergers.

Regarding the question you pose in your letter, I said that it was necessary to form a team of experienced teachers and explained how this was possible, for the Chassidim* have not invested in this area until now. In fact, experience does not necessarily require many years. If one possesses the requisite capabilities and a strong motivation to sincerely train in pedagogy, one can hope to acquire the necessary competence in a few months. And during this period, one need not be the director of a school or the teacher of a difficult class. One can then teach in classes where the workload is lighter. This is self-evident.

You say nothing in your letter about my request to convey my greetings to all those close to the Chassidim* who have been mobilized (note 3: Rav Gansburg had himself been mobilized). I hope the omission is only in your correspondence and that you actually did so upon your return to the Holy Land, so that these people know they have not been forgotten, Heaven forbid. Without a doubt, Rav Y. L. Zalmanov (note 4: see on his subject letter no. 5782) and all the others conducting activities within the framework of the Chabad youth association and who are in contact with them (note 5: with the soldiers) will assist and support you in organizing all of this in the best possible way.

A school director must, above all, negotiate with the various administrations. Based on the impression one can form of what transpires there, it is clear that in case of doubt, one should favor the interlocutor with whom one is known to have good relations and who makes a good impression. You also mention the opening of a teacher training seminary. However, you do not provide me with any program, and you tell me only that great difficulties result from it. One must therefore take an interest in seminaries that already exist, have been operating for some time, and have therefore acquired a method. One will thus select the one that is most suitable. By engaging in dialogue with them sufficiently early, one will also be able to introduce significant improvements.

I send you my blessing to convey good tidings of all this, and you will tell me above all that you have set to work, that you are carrying out your sacred mission within the network, and that you observe the success of Hashem in this matter.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתביו מו', י, יב חשון וב' שלאחריו, ונעם לי לקרות בם שנגש לעבודתו בקדש ברשת אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש אשר באה"ק ת"ו, בתוספת מרץ ובחידוש חיות, ותקותי חזקה אשר היפך מהרגיל בעניני העולם שמזמן לזמן נחלש החיות והמרץ, הנה בהנ"ל שהוא מעיקרי מצות תוה"ק, ושננתם לבניך אלו התלמידים, יהי' כציווי התורה באופן דמעלין בקדש, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצון, וכמדובר בהענין מאזשעס דא ניע חאטשעס (יכול אתה אבל אינך חפץ) וכו'.

פשוט כמו שכתבתי וגם אמרתי בע"פ, שכל ההוצאות הרגילות של הרשת תשולמנה במילואן, ואין זה אלא דבר התלוי בזמן, אבל לאידך גיסא, באותו הנוסח שכותב שלא לצמצם, הנסיון הראה, שתומ"י באים להוצאות מבהילות ובאופן שלאחר זמן אין איש יכול להסביר איך בא לסכום כ"כ, וכמו שנדברנו בע"פ.

מובן שבדעתי הנני עומד שהפרדת בנים ובנות מוכרחת, ואי אפשר לוותר, אבל בענין חיבור כתות, יש לדון עד"ז בכל בית ספר לפי התנאים שלו וכן בהתאם לההשערה, איך תהי' תגובת המשרדים המתאימים לשיתוף כתות אלו...

במה שמקשה במכתבו, שאמרתי שצריך לרכז סגל מורים מומחים ואיך אפשרי הדבר, כיון שמאנ"ש לא התעסקו בזה עד עתה.

הנה מומחיות אינה דורשת דוקא עבודה שנים רבות, כי באם יש כשרון בזה ורצון חזק להתמחה במקצוע החינוך אליבא דנפשי', יש לקוות שבמשך חדשים אחדים יעשה למומחה, ובמשך חדשים אלו, הרי אינו מחויב להיות דוקא מנהל או מורה בכתות קשות וכיו"ב, ויכולים להעסיקו באופן הכתות ששם העבודה קלה יותר, וק"ל...

אינו מזכיר במכתבו ע"ד בקשתי למסור פ"ש גם להשייכים לאנ"ש הנמצאים בצבא, ותקותי שאין זה אלא השמטה במכתבו, ובסמיכות לחזרתו לאה"ק ת"ו בכדי שיהי' מורגש שאין הם מהנשכחים ח"ו, ובטח הרי"ל שי' זלמנוב והשאר שעבודתם במסגרת צא"ח שהם ביותר בקישור עם הנ"ל יעזרהו ויסייעוהו בסידור הדבר באופן הכי מועיל...

כיון שמנהל בי"ס מעיקרי עניניו הוא השקו"ט עם המשרדים השונים, והרושם שעושה שם וכו' מובן שבמקום ספק, יש להקדים את זה שיודעים ע"ד יחסיו הטובים והרושם הטוב שעושה.

במ"ש אודות פתיחת סמינר למורים, הנה אינו כותב שום תכנית בזה ורק שקשור הדבר בקישוים גדולים.

וצריך להתענין ע"ד הסמינרים שקיימים כבר ושפועלים איזה זמן ובמילא ידועה שיטתם, ולבחור מהם המתאימים ביותר, ובודאי ע"י מו"מ עמהם בעוד מועד, אפשר יהי' לתבוע כמה שיפורים נוספים לתקנם.

בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור והעיקר עד"ז אז ער האט זיך אריינגעווארפען בעבודתו הק' לפתח כל עניני הרשת ורואה הצלחת השי"ת בזה.
