Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised to observe that the compendium of Chabad customs (note 2: see on this subject letter no. 5536) is being produced with the greatest slowness.

You mention those who participated in the Chassidic* gathering (farbrengen*). Now, I have already said many times, to several Chassidim*, that a farbrengen* serves to plow and to plant. Afterward, it still remains necessary to absorb and to harvest. For this, one must pass through several "meanderings and thaws of the river." Your friends who attend this gathering must act toward this end, in particular toward those who are there for the first time or who ought to be protected from outside influence.

The last point, which arouses the most interest: you inform me that your son Avraham Yechiel will enter the cheder*. May Hashem grant that this be at a good and fruitful time. In the expression of our Sages*, "let those who are pure come and occupy themselves with matters of purity." In your days and in ours, the promise will be fulfilled according to which, in the Sephardic* formulation, "one will see the Kohen* in Tzion*." Moreover, this concerns you particularly, since according to the writings of the Arizal*, his Likkutei Torah*, cited in chapter 50 of the Tanya*, the Leviim* will become Kohanim* in the World to Come (note 3: the addressee of this letter is a Levi).

במ"ש אודות אלו שהיו נוכחים בהתועדות - כבר אמרתי כ"פ ולכמה מאנ"ש, שבכלל ענין התועדות, הוא חרישה וזריעה, ופשוט שאח"כ צ"ל קליטה וקצירה, וברובא בין הזריעה והקצירה כמה עקולי ופשורי, ולכן על ידידים הנוכחים בהתועדות לעשות מה בזה, ובפרט בנוגע לאלו שבפעם הראשונה נוכחים בהתועדות או שיש לשומרם מהשפעה בלתי רצוי'.

ואחרון חביב, להודעתו מהכנסת בנם אברהם יחיאל שי' לחדר הנה יהי רצון שיהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת, וכמרז"ל יבואו טהורים ויתעסקו בטהורים, הנה בימיו ובימינו יקוים היעוד וכלשון הספרדים יראה כהן בציון ובפרט שלו ביחוד נוגע הדבר ככתוב בכתבי האריז"ל, שאז הלוים יהיו כהנים (לקו"ת להאריז"ל - הובא בתניא פרק נו"ן).
