To the attention of the Rav*, the great scholar, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, possessing vast knowledge, of illustrious lineage, an enthusiastic man of numerous actions, performing deeds of kindness, rendering judgment and leading his community beside tranquil waters, Rav Raphael Baruch (note 1: Rav R. B. Toledano; see on his subject letter no. 1690), leader of the community of Meknes, whose influence extends over the entire country,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your two letters, as well as your telegram. May Hashem grant that all the efforts made by the Jews with the purpose of strengthening Judaism and spreading it (note 2: in particular, those of Rav Toledano, announced in his two letters and telegram) — whose ultimate goal is to magnify and beautify the Torah* — meet with success, without difficulty, and that from time to time, wisdom and knowledge increase.

You surely know the account of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, on the 19th of Kislev*. In any case, you will find enclosed a brochure on this event, which was composed in its time by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, even though, for certain reasons, he did not mention his name there.

הנני לאשר קבלת שני מכתבי כת"ר וגם המברק, ויעזור השם יתברך ויתעלה שכל השתדלויות בני ישראל בענינים של חיזוק היהדות והפצתה, ובנקודה התיכונה - להגדיל תורה ולהאדירה, יהיו בהצלחה ובלי קישויים, ומזמן לזמן תתרבה החכמה והדעה.

בטח ידועה לכת"ר פרשת חג הגאולה של כ"ק אדמו"ר הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע ביום י"ט כסלו, ובכל אופן שלוחה כאן חוברת די"ט כסלו שנכתבה בשעתה ע"י כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, אף על פי שמטעמים לא ייחד שמו עלי' בפירוש.
