I am responding to your letter from the eve of this Sunday and to the information you conveyed by telephone to Rav Hadakov, that you will soon close your business and retain only your position as a shochet* for poultry.

I assume that in what you write to me, there is not the slightest trace of unfair competition. If this is indeed the case, may it be at a good and fruitful time. It would be good for you to place in a tzedakah* box a portion of your future earnings. This will enable the fulfillment of Hashem's* promise that: "You shall tithe in order to become wealthy," and it is stated regarding this: "Please, test Me in this matter."

At an auspicious time, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that each may obtain what is important to him. May Hashem* grant that in this matter as well, you announce good news to me.

Undoubtedly, in your city as well, preparations are being made for the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, the date of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe*, of Chassidus* and all that pertains to it. The merit of the one whose joy we celebrate — the Alter Rebbe* — will protect each person, among all of Israel, in order to satisfy their needs, material and spiritual.
