To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and

devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yoel* (note 1: Rav Y. Halpern, of Brooklyn),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter, informing me of the Melaveh Malkah* — the meal of David, the king, Moshiach* — on Motza'ei Shabbos* Parshas* Vayigash*, as it is said: "And Yehudah* approached him" (note 2: I.e., Yosef. See the continuation). It will indeed be so in the World to Come, when "David, My servant, shall be king over all Israel," as explained in the Torah Or* of the Alter Rebbe*, at the beginning of Parshas* Vayigash*, page 44b.

Several Jews gather together, and "when ten Jews assemble, the Shechinah* is revealed." Moreover, this is the meal of King David, who is still alive and exists, according to the Zohar*, Parshas* Vayigash*, page 207a. And the commentators on this passage explain the meaning of this confrontation between Yehudah* and Yosef*. May Hashem* grant that this result in an increased effort regarding our Torah* and its luminary — its inner dimension — which, in our era, has been revealed through Chassidus*. And may the inspiration be preserved afterward, throughout all the coming days, for peace.

יהי רצון אשר באסיפת כו"כ מבני ישראל דאכל בי' עשרה שכינתא שריא ובסעודתא דדוד מלכא חי וקיים (עיין זהר ויגש רז, רע"א. ובמפרשיו שם מובן שזהו ענין גישה דיהודה ליוסף), יתעוררו בהוספה בעניני תורתנו ומאור שבתורה פנימיות התורה, שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות - ותומשך ההתעוררות על כל הימים הבאים לקראתנו לשלום.
