Igrot Kodesh · Letter 5922 — Faith & Bitachon
Volume 16 · Letter 150
By the grace of Hashem*,
13 Kislev* 5718,
Brooklyn,
You write to me, at the end of your letter, that you are ready to do whatever you are told. I am surprised that you pose this question, when for several years already I have been sending you a rain of instructions, requests, and even directives, concerning the action incumbent upon every individual — a personal obligation in our era — which falls upon all without any exception. The central point of this action is the spreading of the wellsprings* and everything that can assist it — that is, in the simple sense, the spreading of Chassidus* in a manner that the listeners can comprehend, as well as the occasional recitation of Chassidic discourses.
Now, to my great distress, I have not yet received good news of all this, except for a brief report from time to time indicating that a text of Chassidus* was recited in such-and-such a place. But all of this is presented to me as an event of an exceptional character, and I am greatly afraid that it is indeed so. For it very often happens that this is the case. Your father and your sons can, and therefore must, act on behalf of Chabad* in your city and, by now, in your country. But instead of learning about the accomplishments of the Chassidim*, I hear about what others are doing — conquering the various fields one after another, establishing one school after another — while the Chassidim*, and you foremost among them, remain in a state of waiting. Occasionally, on a particular date, you organize a Chassidishe farbrengen*, and after each action you rest for several months until the next festival.
Of course, my purpose is not to deliver a moral rebuke, but rather that you should finally begin to act concretely. For the King Moshiach* stands behind our wall, and the time is exceedingly short while the labor is immense.
The Chassidishe farbrengen* for 19 Kislev* which approaches will surely have the necessary dimensions — which means it will be particularly large. May Hashem* grant that it serve as a good beginning for you to assume your mission, as previously defined.
Of course, all of this is addressed not only to you but also to your father and your brothers. May Hashem* grant that you find the words to explain this to them and that these actions encourage them, compel them to do what is incumbent upon them. For nothing can withstand the will.
With my blessing to convey good news of all this, for a joyous and fruitful Chassidishe farbrengen*,
M. Schneerson
