Igrot Kodesh · Letter 599 — Inclusive Distribution of Chassidic Texts

You ask me about the following expression I used in my letter:[1] "in the way that is most appropriate."[2] You ask me what its meaning is.

What I meant is very simple. The Chassidic discourses and the booklets, which are written in Hebrew, sometimes have a content and a formulation that are difficult for some of those who interact with the recipient. I therefore specify "in the way that is most appropriate" in order to underline that these texts are not sent to him solely to be made available to those who understand them, but that they must also be entrusted to those who need a different presentation in order to grasp their import — and must receive explanations in Yiddish or in the language of the country.

מה שהעיר על לשוני במכתבי "לזכות בו את הרבים באופן המתאים", ושואל מהו פירוש המילות "אופן המתאים" -

כוונתי פשוטה אשר המאמרים והקונטרסים הרי לפעמים תוכנם או גם הלשון (לשה"ק) קשים על חלק מסביבת המקבל, ולכן הנני מוסיף "באופן המתאים" שאין הכוונה בשילוח הקונטרס שיזכו בו רק אלו המבינים התוכן או הלשון כמו שהוא, אלא שישתדלו ג"כ לזכות בו גם את אלו וואס מ'דארף זיי פארטייטשן דעם תוכן מיט אן ענין לפי ערכם, וצריך להסביר להם זה באידיש או גם בלשון המדינה.
