To the chairpersons, officers, and participants in the sixteenth annual fundraising dinner for the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch* of Montreal, may Hashem* grant you long life,
Blessings and greetings,
On the occasion of your annual fundraising dinner, which will take place, with the help of Hashem*, on Thursday, 21 Adar*, I greet the chairpersons, the officers, and the guests, as well as the friends of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, may Hashem* grant them long life. Purim* passed a week ago and each person still has fresh in mind the teaching of this festival, which must have an impact on the daily life of the individual and of the community.
One of the wondrous accounts relating to the self-sacrifice of the Jews, in the era of Mordechai* and Esther*, is the following. Despite the terrible consequences of this dreadful decree, Mordechai* gathered twenty-two thousand Jewish children and taught them Torah*. Through this merit, Hashem* granted His help and the entire Jewish people was saved. Now, the Megillah* of Esther*, like the entire Torah*, is eternal. The teaching it delivers applies in every place and at every era.
In these days, each and every one of us must remember to what extent it is necessary to devote oneself, with all one's strength, to offering children the opportunity to study the Torah* in the purest manner, to educate them in the practice of the mitzvos* with great self-sacrifice.
I hope that all the participants in this dinner will demonstrate the profound awareness they have of the mission entrusted to them, that with the greatest generosity they will support the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch* of Montreal. This will strengthen the Jewish community of this city in particular, and that of the entire world in general. The merit of all this will protect each one of you, with all the members of your family. And, you will receive the blessings of Hashem* in all your needs, material and spiritual.
