Igrot Kodesh · Letter 615 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 3 · Letter 217

By the grace of Hashem,

Erev Rosh Chodesh* Sivan 5710,

Brooklyn, New York,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

the Rav A.,[1] emissary of the wise,

I greet you and bless you.

I have just received your letter of 25 Iyar. I was particularly pleased to see that, in speaking of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, you say: "may he be in good health."[2] One can establish that this must be so from chapter 27 of Iggeret HaKodesh, which explains that the life of the tzaddik is spiritual — made of faith, love and fear. And it is known that he experiences perpetual elevation.

As for what you write about me,[3] why have you done so, since I do not possess all that you say? I need, on my own account, no allusion, no explanation. A brief reflection on my situation suffices for me to know what I am. How could proofs and arguments built by others change all this?

What will become of us? I can only say that the Rebbe takes full responsibility for what he thinks. He will therefore provide. In what way? I do not know. But there are also other things that I do not know.

I conclude by wishing you a good festival, as well as all the members of your family. The names you have communicated to me will be mentioned at the tomb.

Wishing you all the best and success in your mission,
