To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav David Tzvi (note 1: Rav D. T. Tov, of the Bronx),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have learned with satisfaction that the inauguration of your synagogue, the "Congregation Ahavas Yisrael*," will take place this Sunday. May Hashem* grant that this synagogue be worthy of its name, not only in its internal activities, as befits a good synagogue and house of Hashem*, but also, which is no less important, in the influence it exercises on its members and on those who pray there, including when they leave it. In fact, such is the true objective of a synagogue. The closeness to the Creator that a Jew feels during study and prayer must penetrate daily existence, including when one devotes oneself to earning a livelihood, for example. In every domain and in every place, one must indeed feel the love of the Torah* and the fear of Hashem*.

Such is the profound meaning of the words of the Torah* that will be read this Shabbos* (note 2: That of Parshas* Beha'aloscha*), on the eve of the inauguration: "According to the word of Hashem* they camped and according to the word of Hashem* they traveled." During the time of rest as when one must travel, when one leaves the synagogue to find oneself on the road, one always acts "according to the word of Hashem*." I hope that Torah* studies take place in this synagogue, in particular regarding everything that pertains to daily practice, with which every Jew must be familiar. With my blessing to all those who pray in the synagogue, to its members and their families, to whom Hashem* will grant long life,

שמחתי לקבל את הידיעה ,שביום ראשון הבא תתקיים חנוכת הבית

של בית הכנסת שלהם ,קהילת אהבת תורה.

השם יתברך יעזור שבית הכנסת יצדיק את שמו ,לא רק בענינים

הפנימיים כראוי לבית הכנסת כשר ובית אלקים ,אלא גם מה שלא פחות

חשוב ,שהשפעת בית הכנסת תורגש בחברים ובמתפללים גם כאשר הם

יוצאים מבית הכנסת .ובעצם הרי זו התכלית והכוונה האמיתיות של

בית הכנסת ,שהקירוב שהיהודי מרגיש אל הבורא בעת התפלה והלימוד,

יחדור בחיי היום יום שלו גם בעת שהוא עסוק בענינים של פרנסה וכדו׳

שבכל דבר ובכל מקום תורגש אהבת תורה ויראת שמים.וזו גם הכוונה הפנימית של דברי התורה הנקראים בשבת זו -ערב

חנוכת הבית -על פי ה׳ יחנו ועל פי ה׳ יסעו ,שהן בזמן של מנוחה והן

בזמן של נדודים ,כאשר הוא נודד החוצה מבית הכנסת ונמצא בדרך -

שתמיד יהי׳ על פי ה׳.

הנני מקוה שודאי ישנם שיעורי לימוד בבית הכנסת ,בפרט בתחום

הענינים היומיומים שכל יהודי צריך להכיר.

בברכה לכל המתפללים והחברים הם ובני ביתם ה׳ עליהם יחיו.
