To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and assumes a sacred mission, Rav Shmuel Elazar (note 1: Rav S. E. Halpern, of Jerusalem. See, on his subject, Letter no. 5872),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of Shabbos* and the time of the giving of our Torah*, in which you briefly describe the sacred mission you carry out with the preparatory class of the Yeshivah* Toras Emes*.

May Hashem* grant that you redouble in strength and ardor in this matter. You will bring to light not only the revealed forces, not only the hidden forces, but also the most profound potential forces. Indeed, the purpose and the finality of the giving and the receiving of the Torah* are expressed by the verse: "The Torah* and the Holy One, blessed be He, are one." It is in this that the Torah* surpasses the mitzvos*. For, its object is at once revelation and essence. Such is precisely the quality of the Torah*, which issues from wisdom, in relation to the crown, which corresponds to the mitzvos*, as it is said: "I have commanded and My Will has been accomplished," as the Chassidic* discourse of this Shavuos* explained at length. Now, it is the same every day, as it is said (note 2: In the blessing of the Torah*): "He gives the Torah*," in the present tense, all the more so that the merit of the public comes to your aid and our Sages* say: "From my students (note 3: I have learned), more than from all the others." With my blessing to convey good news of all this,

במענה למכתבו מעש"ק ערב זמן מתן תורתנו, בו כותב ראשי פרקים ממלאכתו מלאכת שמים בתוככי תלמידי מכינת תורת אמת.

ויהי רצון אשר יוסיף אומץ וכח בזה, ולא רק כחות הגלוים ולא רק כחות הנעלמים אלא עד לכחות היולים עצמיים, שהרי ענין ותכלית מתן התורה וקבלת התורה הוא באופן שהי' אורייתא וקוב"ה כולא חד וכמעלת התורה על המצות, שענינה א) התגלות ב) העצמות ומהות [שבזה הוא ג"כ מעלת החכמה דאורייתא מחכמה נפקת על הכתר ענין המצות, שאמרתי ונעשה רצוני], כמבואר באריכות במאמר דחה"ש שנה זו, ועד"ז ה"ה בכל יום וכלשון נותן התורה לשון הוה, ובפרט שזכות הרבים מסייעתו וכמאמר חז"ל ומתלמידי יותר מכולם.
