I am responding to your letter of Tuesday of Parshas* Beha'aloscha*. It is judicious to accept this teaching post in the elementary Yeshivah*. Indeed, you are no doubt alluding to a school that is based on sacred values. If this is indeed the case, there is effectively a means of earning a livelihood both materially and spiritually. No doubt you will do so in such a manner that you increase the time you devote to the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*. And, nothing resists the will.

Moreover, you will exercise a positive influence on your surroundings, by strengthening Judaism and spreading it. Thus, the merit of the public comes to your aid. It is surely unnecessary to specify that this spreading is in conformity with the teaching of Parshas* Beha'aloscha*, "when you elevate the lights," which are the Jewish souls, as the Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe* explains and as our Sages* specify, "until the flame rises by itself." This is self-evident. With my blessing to convey good news of all this,

במענה למכתבו מיום השלישי לפ' בהעלותך.

נכונה ההצעה שיקבל משרת מורה בישיבה קטנה, שהרי בודאי כוונתו למוסד חינוך על טהרת הקדש, ואם כן הרי זוהי פרנסה גשמית ורוחניות גם יחד, ובודאי יסתדר באופן שיוסיף בהקביעות שלו בלימוד תורת הנגלה וחסידות, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ובפרט כשישפיע גם בסביבתו להחזקת היהדות והפצתה שאז הרי זכות הרבים מסייעתו, ובודאי למותר להאריך שתכלית הפצה זו הוא כהוראת הסדרה בהעלותך את הנרות אלו נשמות ישראל כמבואר בלקוטי תורה לרבנו הזקן, וכהוראת חז"ל עד שתהא שלהבת עולה מאלי', וק"ל.
