Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6322 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem*,

21 Sivan* 5718,

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter requesting a blessing, in which you describe your sacred mission and you tell me that you have a life of suffering. May Hashem*, Creator of the world Who directs it, grant you material prosperity. For your part, you will broaden the means of earning your livelihood spiritually. You will therefore endeavor to strengthen Judaism and to spread it.

Our Mishnah* says: "Such is the life of the Torah*... You will have a life of suffering" and this statement will be fulfilled through moral suffering, for example by putting into practice the Injunction: "Let my soul be as dust for all." Thus, the "suffering" will consist of being humble and modest and the Mishnah* says, indeed: "Be very, very humble." It would be good to have your Tefillin* checked and the Mezuzos* of your apartment, in order to ensure that they are all kosher*, in conformity with the Halachah*. You will have a fixed study of the revealed part of the Torah*, in particular during the days when you devote yourself to your sacred mission, the writing of Sifrei Torah*, Tefillin*, or Mezuzos*. במענה למכתבו פ"נ, בו כותב אודות מלאכתו בקדש ואשר חי חיי צער.

ויהי רצון אשר השי"ת בורא עולם ומנהיגו ירחיב פרנסתו בגשמיות ובטח מצדו הוא ירחיב פרנסתו ברוחניות, זאת אומרת ההשתדלות בהחזקת היהדות והפצתה, ודבר משנתנו, כך היא דרכה של תורה וכו' וחיי צער תחי' כו' יקיים זה ע"י צער ברוחניות ז.א.

קיום ההוראה ונפשי כעפר לכל תהי', שמצטער מתוך היותו ענו ושפל וכמאמר המשנה מאר מאר הוה שפל רוח.

מהנכון אשר יבדוק את התפילין שלו ואת המזוזות בדירתו שתהיינה כולן כשרות כדין, וילמוד שיעור בפנימיות התורה ובפרט באותן הימים שעוסק במלאכת שמים כתיבת סת"ם.
