Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter requesting a blessing. You tell me that, in your view, you are not succeeding in commerce, as you write in your letter, in other words that you have no luck. You know the teaching of our Sages* according to which "the notion of luck does not exist for Israel." Indeed, the Holy One, blessed be He, creates the world, directs it, protects each Jew in all his needs as well as in those of the members of his family. This means that you must intensify your commitment to the Torah* and the mitzvos*. The members of your family will do the same. This will increase the blessings of Hashem* in all that you need, in general, in the means of ensuring your material livelihood, in particular.

To earn your living, more precisely, you know the teaching of our Sages* according to which "salt prevents the lack of money," which means that you must multiply the giving of tzedakah* and do so on many occasions. One of the propitious times for this is, each weekday, before the morning prayer. It would be good to have your Tefillin* checked and the Mezuzos* of your apartment, in order to ensure that they are kosher*, in conformity with the Halachah*. With my blessing to convey good news,

במענה למכתבו פ"נ, בו כותב אשר לפי דעתו אינו מצליח במסחרו וכלשונו במכתבו, זאת אומרת בלי מזל.

והנה ידוע מאמר רז"ל, ואין מזל לישראל, כי הקב"ה בורא עולם ומנהיגו הוא המשגיח על כל אחד ואחת מישראל בכל המצטרך לו ולבני ביתו.

ומזה מובן שעליו להוסיף בעניני תורה ומצות וכן שכל ב"ב יעשו כזה, שעל ידי זה יתוסף בברכות השי"ת בהמצטרך בכלל ובעניני פרנסה בפרט.

ובנוגע לעניני פרנסה ביחוד ידועה עצת חז"ל מלח ממון חסר, זאת אומרת שעליו להרבות בצדקה, ולחלק את הצדקה ברבות פעמים, ומזמנים המסוגלים לזה הוא בכל יום חול קודם תפלת הבקר.

ומהנכון אשר יבדקו את התפילין שלו וכן את המזוזות בדירתם שתהיינה כולן כשרות כדין.
