Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6380 — Chinuch
Volume 17 · Letter 236 · To: distingué ‘Hassid qui craint D.ieu
By the grace of Hashem*,
9 Tammuz* 5718,
Brooklyn,
To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,
Rav Yitzchak Aizik (note 1: Rav I. A. Karasik, of Kfar Chabad. See, on his subject, Letter no. 3874),
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 11 Sivan*, in which you tell me that you hold functions within the vocational school. As long as this has not been established within the framework of Chabad*, the question you asked me (note 2: Presumably about leaving this school) does not apply. Regarding establishing a similar program within Chabad*, I have already responded to Rav E. Wolf, who asked me about this subject (note 3: This is Letter no. 6245). You surely take advantage of your teaching to transmit the fear of Hashem* to your students. Indeed, everything that concerns a person must be used to put into practice the mission entrusted to him: "I was created to serve my Creator." Moreover, the Shulchan Aruch* rules the halachah* in this sense and states: "In all your ways, know Him."
You make reference to your son Yehuda Leib (note 4: Presumably celebrating his Bar Mitzvah*) and you will take note, in the Hayom Yom*, of our custom regarding how to put on the Tefillin* and say the blessing. You speak of a commentary on the revealed part of the Torah* for the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah*. In my opinion, it is clear that one must prepare not only a Chassidic* discourse, which will then be recited, but also an explanation of the revealed part of the Torah*. Should it be part of his discourse? There exist, on this matter, different customs. At a propitious moment, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that all may obtain the satisfaction of their needs, in accordance with what you write to me.
You ask me whether it is good to use, during the festivals, an electric cooking system, since such an action gives rise to nothing at all, unlike electric lighting. You do not specify the meaning of your question. You are presumably alluding to an electric device that is not plugged in. You ask whether one may, during the festival, plug it in and turn it on. It is quite obvious that this is forbidden. You are surely preparing for the festival of liberation of 12 and 13 Tammuz*. May Hashem* grant that it continue, in all that concerns Chabad*, throughout the coming year. With my blessing to convey good news,
