Greetings and blessings,

You allude to the chilazon* (note 2: The fish that surfaced every seventy years in the era of the Beis HaMikdash*, from which the blue thread of the tzitzis* was made), the techeles* (note 3: The blue thread itself), and the concrete manner of making tzitzis* in our era. You know that this was the subject of a controversy and that great ones of this world opposed it, including with arguments found in the revealed part of the Torah*, when this innovation emanated from Radzin (note 4: City whose Rebbe claimed to have rediscovered the chilazon*).

The Rebbe Rashab* himself did not accept this new practice under any pretext. For the moment, I no longer possess the letter he wrote on this subject. I recall, however, that he cites therein a teaching of the Kabbalah* according to which the techeles* will reappear only in the world to come. Of course, we must abide by the words of the Rebbe*. You will also consult the tractate Sukkah* 32b, which says: "Rabbi Elazar endeavored to do (note 5: What he had heard from his master, although this is not the commonly accepted halachic* opinion) ... for this is what had emanated from the mouth of Rav Kahana." You also cite the Mishnah*, at the end of the tractate Eduyos*, according to which a mamzer* who is a Torah* scholar takes precedence over an ignorant Kohen Gadol*. You will consult, on this subject, the Zohar*, volume 2, at page 95b.
