To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to

communal needs, Rav Yitzchak (note 1: Rav I. Rabinovitch),

Greetings and blessings,

I have learned, by telephone, that you returned safely from your travels (note 2: To Russia). Subsequently, I received with pleasure your letter, in which you give a detailed description of them. You also communicate the pleasant news that it was possible for you to bring back with you the manuscripts of your father, may he rest in peace (note 3: The Gaon, Rav Zeev Wolf Rabinovitch, author of the Shaarei Toras Eretz Yisrael*, mentioned further in this letter. This manuscript was later published in Jerusalem in 5721 (1961) under the title Shaarei Toras Bavel*). May Hashem* fulfill the wish of your heart, may He enable you to edit them, and may you achieve success in your undertakings, in accordance with what we discussed. This will have the consequence, to a great extent, of making fruitful the influence you will exercise upon all the children of Israel who will wish to study such a book and who will be able to comprehend it. For nothing resists the will. Now, if it was previously necessary to bring such Jews from the other continent (note 4: In the absence of Jews on the spot capable of conducting such deep study), this will no longer be the case henceforth, and it may involve those born right here. It is certain that an effort is never in vain, especially when it is accompanied by concrete action.

You conclude your letter by evoking the fear of our brothers, the children of Israel, in the Soviet countries and the doubts concerning their future. I am profoundly convinced that a strengthening of Judaism in the United States, in the spirit of the Torah* and the Tradition, will necessarily exercise an influence over there. Indeed, in the spiritual domain, borders and geographic distance are not a separation, all the more so since the Jews form but a single organism. One can observe this in the physical body, for by strengthening one of its members — and all the more so several members — one must necessarily obtain that the others are fortified, as well as the vitality of the entire body.

In the same way, by strengthening the Judaism of the United States, the Torah*, Torah* of life, and its mitzvos*, of which it is said "one shall live by them" — all the more so since this community currently represents a large portion of the Jewish people — one must necessarily strengthen the children of Israel who are over there, even if they are on the other side of the iron curtain. Indeed, our Sages* say that "a wall of iron itself could not separate Israel from their Father Who is in heaven."

On the occasion of the days of liberation of 12 and 13 Tammuz*, which have just passed, I enclose a brochure presenting the history of this period. You surely have knowledge of it already, but without a doubt you will find interesting points in it.

I thank you for having transmitted the books to the Jews who are on the spot. I send you my respects and my blessing to convey good news of all this. I thank you, furthermore, for the book Shaarei Toras Eretz Yisrael*, which I have just received. I hope, finally, that your daughter and your son-in-law, who were here, are well.

נוסף על הידיעה הטלפונית שקבלתי ע"ד חזירתו לשלום מנסיעותיו, קבלתי בנועם מכתבו בו מתאר נסיעתו ביתר פרטים, ובו ג"כ הידיעה המשמחת שעלה בידו להוציא כת"י אביו ע"ה. ויהי רצון שהשי"ת ימלא משאלות לבבו לטובה שיוכל להוציאו לאור ויצליחו ג"כ בפעולותיו מתאים למה שדברנו שיפעול במדה הכי גדולה בהשפעתו על אחב"י שירצו ללמוד ספר שכזה שאז גם יוכלו להבינו, כיון שאין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ולא כמו בשנים קדמוניות שהי' צריך להביא יהודים כאלה מעבר לים, אלא שיהיו ילידי המקום, וחזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם, ובפרט שהתעמולה תצטרף למעשים בפועל.

ובמה שמסיים במכתבו ע"ד פחד אחב"י בארצות המועצות והספיקות בנוגע לעתידם שם, הנה אמונתי ברורה שהוספה ביהדות בארצות הברית ברוח התורה והמסורה מוכרח שתשפיע גם שם, כי לגבי רוחניות הרי ענינים גבוליים וריחוק מקום אינם מפסיקים, ובפרט שכל ישראל קומה אחידה, וכמו שרואים בגוף גשמי שבשעה שמוסיפים חיזוק באחד מאבריו, ואצ"ל בכמה מהם, מוכרח שיביא חיזוק גם בשאר האברים וחיות בכל הגוף. כמו כן כשמוסיפים חיות ביהדות ארצות הברית בעניני תורה תורת חיים ובמצותי' שכתוב בהם וחי בהם, ובפרט שיהדות ארה"ב מהוה עכשו החלק הכי חשוב בכללות עם ישראל, מוכרח שיביא זה חיזוק לכל אחב"י באשר הם שם, אפילו אלה שנמצאים מאחורי מסך הברזל, ובפרט על פי מאמר חכמינו ז"ל אפילו מחיצה של ברזל אינה מפסיקה בין ישראל לאביהם שבשמים.

בקשר עם ימי הגאולה י"ב-י"ג תמוז דאזלינן מיניהו מוסג"ב חוברת בדברי הימים ההם, שאף על פי שבטח יודע ע"ד כללות הענין, בודאי ימצא בה פרטים מענינים.
