fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to the two official letters, and in the meantime you have surely received my letter, which responded to the preceding ones. You tell me that you have obtained the documents for retirement. May Hashem* grant that in this matter the saying of our Torah*, Torah* of life, be fulfilled, according to which: "This too is for the good."

It was explained (note 2: See, on this subject, Letter no. 5220) at the Chassidic* gathering that this saying is even stronger than the statement according to which: "All that Hashem* does is for the good." The latter, indeed, means that the consequences will be good. By contrast, "this too is for the good" means that the event itself is positive, and not only its consequences, as indicated by the stories of our Sages* that are cited in this connection. This also justifies the fact that the first saying is formulated in Hebrew, thus alluding to the deep dimension, while the second is in Aramaic, indicating what is merely superficial but does not reveal itself. This is self-evident. With my blessing to convey good news, in good health and with breadth of spirit,

שלום וברכה! במענה לשני מכ' הרשמים ובודאי בינתים נתקבל מכתבי מענה על מכ' הקודמים,

ולהודעתם מהתעודה להפענסיא, הנה יהי רצון שיקוים בזה פתגם תורתנו תורת חיים גם זו לטובה.

וכמבואר בעת ההתועדות שזהו עוד יותר מהענין דכל מה דעביד רחמנא לטב עביד, שתוכנו שהתוצאות תהיינה טובות משא"כ גם זו לטובה, שהענין עצמו ג"כ יהי' טוב לא רק תוצאות טובות, וכמובן מהמאורעות המובאות במרז"ל בקשר עם הנ"ל, ועפ"ז מובן ג"כ זה שפתגם הראשון הוא בלשון הקדש (פנימיות), משא"כ פתגם השני בתרגום (אחורים) לא בגלוי, וק"ל.
