Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6432 — Prayer

By the grace of Hashem*,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 26 Tammuz* and, at a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects you, so that you may obtain the satisfaction of your needs and that the wishes of your heart may be fulfilled, in all the domains you mention. You speak of thoughts that prevent you from concentrating on your study. One of the means of remedying this is study from the text. Even when you reflect and construct a reasoning, you will have a book or a fascicle placed before you. And the same will apply for prayer.

You also tell me that you are thinking about a trade. Now, you know the formulation of the blessing after the meal, which is instituted by the Torah*: "He nourishes the entire world by His goodness, His grace, His beneficence, His mercy." Therefore, by redoubling your ardor and constancy in the study of the Torah* and in the practice of the Mitzvos* in the best manner, one receives the blessings of Hashem* in this matter, including being able to settle in a positive manner when the time comes. And the verse says clearly: "If you walk in My statutes" — and Rashi*, basing himself on the Sifra*, explains: "by directing your efforts toward the Torah*" — an effort being therefore necessary in this matter — "and if you keep My Mitzvos*, I will give you" all the blessings stated in this Parashah*.

You surely have knowledge of the three fixed studies that pertain to the Chumash*, the Tehilim*, and the Tanya*. At the very least, you will adopt them from now on. With my blessing to convey good news,

בעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להמצטרך לו ולמילוי משאלות לבבו בכל אותם ענינים אודותם כותב.

ובמ"ש אודות מחשבות המפריעות בעדו להתרכז בלימוד, ידוע שמהעצות לזה הוא הלימוד מבפנים, ואפילו בעת שמע[י]ינים במחשבה וסברא יהי' הספר או הקונטרס פתוח לפניו באותו הענין, ועד"ז בהנוגע לתפלה.

ובמ"ש אודות מחשבות אודות תכלית, הרי ידוע נוסח ברכת הזן שהיא מן התורה: הזן את העולם כולו בטובו בחן ובחסד וברחמים שמזה מובן שעל ידי הוספה בהתמדה ושקידה בלימוד תורה ובקיום מצותי' בהידור, מתוסף בברכות השי"ת בזה בכלל ובזה גם בהנוגע להתסדרות טובה כשיבוא הזמן לזה, ומקרא מלא דבר הכתוב, אם בחקתי תלכו (ופירש"י והוא מהספרא, שתהיו עמלים בתורה, עמלים דוקא) ואת מצותי תשמורו גו' ונתתי וגו' - ככל הברכות האמורות בפרשה.

בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ועכ"פ ישמור עליהם מכאן ולהבא.
