To the young Shalom (note 1: Rav S. Edelman, of Paris. See, on his subject, Letter no. 4586),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 25 Menachem Av*, in which you tell me that my opinion was conveyed to you that after your marriage, you and your wife, may Hashem* grant her long life, should go to Morocco, to Casablanca. There, you will assume a sacred mission — education based on sacred values — with the Chassidim* who are on location.

Your lot is happy. Divine Providence* has entrusted to you a pleasant portion — education that brings the hearts of the children of Israel closer to their Father Who is in Heaven. There are no words to explain the reward for this, in addition to its most essential aspect, according to which: "the reward of the Mitzvah* is the Mitzvah* itself" (note 2: The attachment to Hashem* that results from its fulfillment). Moreover, it is in this regard that it is said that man consumes the fruits in this world and preserves the capital for the world to come. This includes the study of the Torah* and good deeds. It is said that "the study of the Torah* surpasses the other Precepts" and good deeds are superior to Tzedakah* (note 3: Which concerns only the poor, whereas good deeds are also conceivable toward the rich). There is therefore here the essence of the service of Hashem* in this period of the heel of Moshiach*. This is the means of truly attaching oneself to Hashem*, of transforming darkness into light, and, as the Alter Rebbe* says in the Iggeres HaKodesh*, at the end of chapter 9: "one will have the merit of witnessing, with one's own eyes, the return of Hashem* to Zion." With my blessing for success in all that has just been said,

שלום וברכה! במענה למכתבו מכ"ה מנ"א, ותוכנו אשר נמסר להם דעתי, אשר אחר החתונה יהיו הוא וזוגתו שתליט"א במרוקה קסבלנקה, ויתעסקו שם בעבודת הק' חינוך עטה"ק ביחד עם אנ"ש שי' הנמצאים שם.

ואשרי חלקם שהשגחה העליונה העמידתם על חלק היפה, חינוך המקרב לב בנ"י לאבינו שבשמים, אשר גודל השכר אין די באר, נוסף על עיקר ותכלית השכר, שכר מצוה מצוה, ועוד זאת, אשר הנ"ל הוא מהדברים עליהם נאמר שאדם אוכל פירותיהם בעוה"ז והקרן קיימת לעוה"ב, שהרי כולל בתוכו ת"ת וגמ"ח, אשר ת"ת כנגד כולם, וגמ"ח הגדולה גם מצדקה, ה"ה עיקר עבודת ה' בעתים הללו בעקבות משיחא, והיא הדרך לדבקה בה' באמת ולהפכא חשוכא לנהורא דילה, וכסיום רבנו הזקן באגה"ק (סוף סי' ט'), יזכו לראות עין בעין בשוב ה' ציון כו'.
