Greetings and blessings,

You tell me that, according to what you have heard, all that I wrote regarding the ships (note 1: Israeli ships traveling during Shabbos*) applies only to the old ones, but not to the new ones (note 2: See, on this subject, Letter no. 5898). Now, before writing all of this and, of course, before giving authorization to publish my letters in 5718 (note 3: In 1958, that is, the very year of the writing of this letter), I reflected on the functioning and the operation of the ships, on the date of the dissemination and publication of these letters — that is, the present period and in 5718.

I add that according to the current progress of technology, it is more or less certain that, in a few years, ships will operate with machines that will be called automatic. Nevertheless, several times a day, human intervention will remain necessary, involving the transgression of Torah* Prohibitions. Whoever claims the contrary knows absolutely nothing about the actual and current functioning of ships, or else has the will and the intention to deceive the public in the most blatant manner.

מובן שקודם שכתבתי ע"ד הנ"ל, ופשיטא שקודם שנתתי רשיון להדפיס מכתבי צ שהי' זה בשנת תשי"ח צ התבוננתי בהפעלת ובהנהגת האניות בזמן פרסום והדפסת המכתבים. ז.א. בשנים אלו ועד בשנת תשי"ח.

וזאת להוסיף שכפי קצב התקדמות המכוניות עתה צ קרוב לודאי שעוד כו"כ שנים תופעלנה האניות במכונות הנק' אוטומטיות, אבל באופן שרבות פעמים במשך מעל"ע תוכרחנה להתערבות בני אדם באופן דמלאכה דאורייתא. וכל האומר אחרת ה"ז צ או שאינו יודע כלל וכלל בנוגע להפעלת אניות בפועל ובהוה, או שרצונו וכוונתו להטעות את הצבור ובטעות גסה ביותרו
