Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have received your letter of 8 Elul*, which announces good news concerning you, since you tell me that you are in good health and that you earn a proper livelihood. May Hashem* grant that it be so, in an ever-increasing manner, in the future, for we are told to ascend in matters of holiness. A Jew must indeed ensure that everything concerning him be holy, that his life be based on the teaching of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life. I now respond to your questions:

A) Regarding a partnership in your business, I do not see the benefit, since Hashem* has granted you success. If your business needs to be expanded, you will be able to do so by your own means. May Hashem* grant that this occur at a good and fruitful time, that you use the profit in good health and in a joyful manner, for matters of Torah* and Mitzvos*.

B) You tell me that there are differences of opinion between you and your wife. Others should be made to explain this to her: if one observes that the behavior of your son is not perfect, that is an additional reason to ask Hashem* to grant you another child. In fact, experience shows that an additional son or daughter improves the behavior of the previous children.

C) You speak of merchants who compete with you. One of the solutions is to ignore them. It is said that: "as the face reflects in the water, the heart reflects in the heart." Forgetting them, as well as everything that concerns them, is therefore effective.

I am surprised that you tell me nothing about your brother, following our discussion in which you were to make an effort to influence him so that he put into practice the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. For nothing stands before the will, and an effort is never in vain. On the occasion of the new year that is approaching, for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I express to you herein my wishes, to you and to all of yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually. שלום וברכה! לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מח' אלול, כתוב עבורו בבשורה הטובה, אשר הבריאות והפרנסה בסדר, ויהי רצון אשר להבא עוד יתוסף בזה, שהרי נצטוינו מעלין בקדש, ועניני איש הישראלי בידו הוא שיהיו קדושים על ידי שיהיו חייו על פי הוראת תורתנו הק' תורת חיים. ובשאלתו:

א) בהנוגע לשותפות במסחרו.

כיון שהשם יתברך הצליחו, למה יצרף עוד מי להענין, ואם העסק דורש שירחיבוהו, יש להשתדל להרחיבו בכחות עצמו, ויהי רצון שתהי' הרחבה בשעה טובה ומוצלחת ולהשתמש בהריוח שלו לענינים בריאים ושמחים ובענינים של תורה ומצות.

ב) בשאלתו במה שיש חילוקי דיעות בינו ובין זוגתו תחי'.

יש להשתדל אשר ידידיהם יסבירו לה, שאדרבה כיון שישנו איזה ענין שאינו בשלימות בהנהגת בנם שי' זהו טעם נוסף לבקש מהשי"ת שיברכם בעוד זחו"ק, ובפרט שרואים במוחש שע"י הוספה בבן ובבת הרי חלה הטבה גם בבנים הקודמים.

ג) במ"ש אודות סוחרים המתחרים אתו וכו'.

מהעצות בזה להסיח דעת מהם, וע"פ מ"ש כמים הפנים לפנים כן לב האדם לאדם, הרי סו"ס פועל היסח הדעת ממנו ומעניניו.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר בהנוגע לאחיו שי' מתאים למה שנדברו, שישתדל להשפיע עליו בעניני תורה ומצות, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון וחזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם.

ולקראת השנה החדשה, הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
