To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, devotes himself to

communal needs, filled with eagerness, of

multiple accomplishments, Rav Shlomo (note 1: Rav S. Perin, of London. See, on his subject, Letter no. 6242),

Greetings and blessings,

It is with pleasure and satisfaction that I received your letter. You tell me that a deposit has already been paid, at a fruitful moment, for the new building in which all the activities of Lubavitch* will be concentrated. It is surely unnecessary to emphasize that this is an important acquisition. I hope that it will result, in the long term, in positive consequences, through energetic, expanded, important, and concrete accomplishments that will vivify all the domains of Lubavitch* activity in London and, more generally, in England. Through the spreading of the wellsprings (note 2: Of Chassidus*), you will vivify and strengthen the situation of Judaism and, in particular, that of education based on sacred values. May Hashem* grant success, considerable success, to you yourself, to those who share your ideas and assist you in your work. Our Sages* say that "one who sanctifies himself slightly here below is greatly sanctified from above." How much more so when one sanctifies himself greatly here below. Furthermore, one is obligated to ascend in matters of holiness.

Regarding the name, I propose that this building be called Lubavitch House, or, if for any reason this is not possible, Chabad* House. May Hashem* grant that the terms of the verse be fulfilled: "The glory of man consists in residing in his house." Chassidus* explains that these words allude to the Supernal Man, to Hashem*, Who wishes to possess a dwelling, a sanctuary here below. This will be filled with Torah*, with Mitzvos*, with Chassidus* revealing itself in the best manner. I address to you, as well as to the members of your family, my wishes that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, as well as all those who act in this domain, with the members of their own families. All will know success in their communal accomplishments and in their personal concerns. With my blessing to convey these good news,

Basing myself on the verse: "I am a companion of all who fear You and keep Your Precepts," I enclose my personal contribution toward the cost of acquiring Lubavitch House.

שלום וברכה!

שימח אותי לקבל את הידיעה שבית־הכנסת שלהם הסתדר במקומו

החדש בשעה טובה ומוצלחת ,וכיון שאנו כעת בין פורים ופסח ,בחודשים

של שמחה וגאולה ,הנני מאחל להם ,שתהי׳ אצלם עבודת ה׳ בשמחה,

עבודה זו תפלה ,שענין התפלה הוא גם יציאת מצרים וגאולה ,כמבואר

בתורת החסידות ,והתקוה שבית הכנסת שלהם יהי׳ גם בית המדרש

ללימוד תורה וחסידות ,לא רק בשבת וביום־טוב אלא גם לכל הפחות

כמה פעמים בשבוע ,כדי להחדיר מהקדושה גם בימי החול ובכל הענינים

של חיי היום יום.

רצוני לאחל לכם במיוחד ,את מה שדובר בפורים אודות ״ורבים

מעמי הארץ מתיהדים״ ,שמלבד הענין כפשוטו ,יש בזה משמעות עמוקה

יותר עבור כל יהודי .כי מאחר שהחיים הם נשמה בגוף ,ישנם ענינים

מצד הגוף שבהם מתבטא הענין ד״עמי הארץ״ ,אלו הם עניני אכילה

ושתי׳ ,מסחר ובכלל צרכי הגוף .דורשת התורה שיהודי יבדל לא רק

כאשר הוא לומד תורה ,מתפלל ומקיים מצוות ,אלא גם בעת מסחר,

אכילה ושתי׳ וכו׳ ]דהיינו[ :שהמסחר יהי׳ על פי תורה ,בכשרות ,ללא

השגת גבול ,ללא לשון הרע על מתחרה וכדומה ,והאכילה ושתי׳ תהיינה

גם הן על פי תורה ,במידה הנכונה ובכוונה הנכונה ,נוסף על כשרות

כמובן ,וזהו בכלל הענין של ״בכל דרכיך דעהו״ ,כמבואר ברמב״ם ובטור

שו״ע או״ח סי׳ רל״א.

תחלת היום של יהודי היא בתפלה -בברכות השחר בבית ותפלה

בציבור בבית-הכנסת ,ואחרי התפלה שיעור בתורה ואחר כך מתחילים

הענינים של בכל דרכיך )טור שו״ע או״ח סימן קנ״ה ,קנ״ו( .מכך מובן

שבית הכנסת צריך להיות מאורגן כך שההשפעה ]מהשהות בו[ תחדור

ויהי רצון שבקרוב תזכו בתוך כלל ישראל -ללכת מבית הכנסת

החדש שהוא מקדש מעט ,למקדש השלישי שיבנה -בגאולה האמיתית

והשלמה על ידי משיח צדקנו.
