Greetings and blessings,

I received, in their time, your letter and your three requests for a blessing. Regarding your departure from that place, that gentleman (note 1: Who came to consult the Rebbe on this subject) has surely conveyed to you what we discussed on this matter. The idea is as follows. If you leave that place definitively, or even for a certain time, it is quite evident that you cannot allow yourself not to be replaced. This is self-evident and you must understand what I mean. Therefore, while it is still possible — that is, some time before your departure — one of the Chassidim* who possesses capabilities in this matter must come to assist you. Gradually, they will become accustomed to him and he himself will adjust to the situation on the ground.

Until the fixed date, the members of the community and the people on location must not have knowledge of your departure, so that they do not formulate other proposals and do not express the wish to bring in the person who would suit them. This risk will be averted if you do as I have said. It will then be seen that this is indeed the continuation of your presence (note 2: The presence of this new person) and not a new development, which will, moreover, present several advantages (note 3: It will not be necessary to introduce a new element). But as I said, the success of this strategy requires that you delay the announcement of your departure from the city for some time, to the fullest extent possible. You will communicate here, as quickly as possible, when you think you will leave, so that there will be sufficient time to find the right person, which requires some preparations. מכתבו וג' הפ"נ קבלתי בעתם. ובהנוגע לנסיעתם משם ל... בטח פרט לו מר... שי' מה שדברנו בזה. והנקודה, שהן אם נוסע כלה או רק למשך זמן, מובן וגם פשוט, שאי אפשר להשאיר מקום פנוי, וק"ל וד"ל. ולכן בעוד מועד [כוונתי, איזה זמן קודם שיסעו משם] כדאי שיבוא לשם איש המתאים מאנ"ש, ולאט לאט יתרגלו עמו, וגם הוא יתרגל להמצב שם. ומוכרח שעד א;63637#&ז לא ידעו הבע"ב ועמא דבר שב... ע"ד נסיעת כת"ר משם, בכדי שלא יתחילו לבוא בהצעות, שיביאו מי שהוא מהעולה על רוחם לשם. משא"כ באופן האמור, הרי יהי' פירוש הענין, שזהו המשך לשהותו של כת"ר שם, ואין כאן דבר חדש, וכמה מעלות בדבר. וכאמור - הצלחת תכסיס זה מכריחה, שיאחר הודעת רצונו לנסוע לאיזה זמן מ... ככל האפשרי. ולכאן יודיע בהקדם הכי האפשרי מתי לערך בתכניתם לנסוע, בכדי שחיפוש איש המתאים ונסיעתו, הדורשים איזה הכנות, יהי' לזה די זמן מספיק, וכנ"ל - ככל שיקדים בהודעתו פרטים א לו לכאן - טוב יותר להענין.
