Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6536 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem*,

Greetings and blessings,

After a long interruption, I received your letter of 24 Tishrei*, in which you communicate your daily schedule. May Hashem* grant that you fill and permeate this program with love and fear of Hashem*. Indeed, everything in it can be performed from the right side (note 1: In a positive manner), according to the expression of tractate Shabbos* 63a (note 2: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "You will consult, at this reference, the commentary of Rashi* on those who find themselves on the left side, as well as his commentary on tractate Yoma* 72b"). For this, love must precede fear of Hashem*. In the words of the Mishnah*, "his fear shall precede his wisdom." And the same applies to love, as our Sages* say at the beginning of tractate Berachos*, explaining why the first paragraph of the Shema Yisrael* is read before the second. You will also consult the beginning of chapter 4 of the Tanya*.

Love is the source of the two hundred and forty-eight positive commandments, and fear, of the three hundred and sixty-five prohibitions. The means of acquiring love and fear is set forth in the Laws of the Foundations of the Torah* of the Rambam*, at the beginning of the second chapter. But in our era, all of this can be studied through Chassidus*. It seems to me that we spoke about this when you were here. May Hashem* grant that you succeed in all of this, and that you be, above all, conscious of finding yourself in a land that everyone, including the other nations, calls the "Holy Land." It follows, for each person, the necessity of attaining increased holiness, as it is said: "You shall be holy, for I am holy." And nothing stands before the will (note 3: And therefore, everyone can attain this). With my blessing to convey good news of all this,

לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ד תשרי, ובו גם תכנית סדר היום שלו,

ויהי רצון אשר ימלא ויחדיר את הסדר, באהבת ה' ויראת ה' שהרי כל הענינים שבתכנית יכול להיות בזה האופן למימינים בהם (שבת ס"ג א'*) והוא ע"י הקדמת אהבת ה' ויראתו, וכלשון המשנה יראתו קודמת לחכמתו, ועד"ז גם בנוגע למדת האהבה, וכמרז"ל ר"פ דברכות, בטעם קדימת פרשה ראשונה לפרשה שני', ועיין ג"כ תניא ריש פרק ד', האהבה היא שרש לרמ"ח מ"ע והיראה שרש לשס"ה לא תעשה, והדרך לבא לאהבתו ויראתו ית' הרי מבואר בהלכות יסודי התורה להרמב"ם ריש פרק ב', ובתקופתנו הרי הענינים באים בלימוד תורת החסידות, וכמדומה שנדבר בזה בהיותו כאן.

ויהי רצון שיצליח בהאמור, ובעיקר להדגיש אשר נמצא הוא בארץ הנקראת בפי כל ואפילו או"ה בשם ארץ הקדושה, שזהו מכריח הוספה בקדושת האדם, וע"ד מ"ש קדושים תהיו - כי קדוש אני, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
