Volume 18 · Letter 42

By the grace of Hashem*,

9 MarCheshvan* 5719,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of this Tuesday, when the word "good" was said twice (note 1: During the third day of creation). In it, you describe your sacred actions within the Yeshiva* Achei Temimim that you direct and, in particular, in the classes in which you teach the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. May Hashem* grant that you announce good news. You will tell me that everything advances and develops. Subsequently, when this addition is effective, it will still be possible to do more tomorrow, and then the day after. As I have already specified, may Hashem* grant that the Chassidim* make full use of the success granted to them from above. If this were indeed the case, communal accomplishments and personal concerns would be radically different. Naturally, my purpose is not to complain about the past, but rather to tell you what must be done in the present and in the future. Moreover, our Sages* specify, at the end of tractate Kesubos*, that everything concerning the children of Israel — all of whom bear the name of Eretz Yisrael* — is like the deer, an animal whose skin expands as its flesh grows, as this text describes. If you make use of the heavenly influence that Hashem* grants you, He will also confer upon you one success and then another, in communal domains and, consequently, in what concerns you personally — this is self-evident.

I thank you greatly for having announced the good news of the improvement in the health of those persons, who were mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, leader of Israel. May Hashem* grant that all improve more and more, until they fully recover their health. Hashem* will grant you the success of conveying good news of those around you, of a visible and tangible good. And you will ask the other Chassidim* to announce good news and improvements as well, but not only — which Hashem* forbid and may He protect us — that something that is not... has occurred (note 2: A good news). In such a case, according to the expression of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, one belongs to the "Chassidim* of misfortune" (note 3: See, on this subject, Letter no. 3264). In contrast to this, you will therefore announce joyous events and you will thus be "Chassidim* of benefits." Moreover, the joy and the good will be abundant, as the repetition in the expression indicates: "with joy and enthusiasm." With my blessing to convey good news of all this,
