Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 4 Kislev*, in which you specify that you are seventeen and a half years old. You wish to continue your studies, including after your marriage, but you are anxious, because the cost of housing after marriage will be very great. You have therefore had the idea of leaving Eretz Yisrael*. Of course, it is particularly surprising that you are worrying now about how you will settle after your marriage, and even more so that this worry is disturbing your constancy and ardor in study.

If you wish to know my opinion: continue your studies in one of the Yeshivos* in the Holy Land that is based on sacred values, with the most intense ardor and the greatest constancy. Set aside all thoughts that disturb your study of the Torah*, your service of Hashem*, and your fervent prayer. Of course, there must be, in the program of your study, a time devoted to its inner dimension, which in our era has been revealed through Chassidus*. In our generation in particular, this study is absolutely fundamental. It must be fixed not only in time, but also and above all in the soul, as the Kuntres Etz HaChaim* of the Rebbe Rashab* explains at length, based on various teachings of our Sages*. And you will consult the astonishing and wondrous words appearing in the introduction of our master, Rabbi Chaim Vital, disciple of the Arizal*, which are reproduced in the appendices of this Kuntres*. Constancy and ardor in this study will also multiply the blessings of Hashem* in general and, in particular, those that are necessary for your needs and for those of the persons you mention, whose names will be mentioned, at a propitious moment, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. You surely have knowledge of the three fixed studies pertaining to the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*. At the very least, you will adopt them in the future.

במענה למכתבו מד' כסלו, בו כותב אשר הוא בגיל י"ז וחצי שנה, ורוצה להמשיך בלימוד וגם לאחרי החתונה, אבל דואג כיון שהוצאות דירה לאחרי החתונה עולות בדמים מרובים, ולכן נולדה סברא, שיסע לחו"ל וכו'.

ומובן שלפלא הכי גדול הדאגה שלו עתה איך יסתדר לאחרי החתונה , ודאגה עד כדי כך שמבלבלת להתמדה ושקידה בלימודו!

ואם את דעתי ישאל, הרי ילמוד באחת הישיבות אשר על טהרת הקדש באה"ק ת"ו בהתמדה ושקידה הכי גדולה, ובסילוק כל המחשבות המבלבלות מלימוד התורה ומעבודת ה' בעבודת התפלה. ומובן וגם פשוט שבסדרי הלימוד צ"ל שיעור קבוע בלימוד פנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות [אשר בפרט בתקופתנו הכרח חיוני הוא לימוד זה, ובקביעות לא רק בזמן אלא והוא העיקר קביעות גם בנפש, וכמבואר בארוכה בקונטרס עץ חיים לכ"ק אדמו"ר מוהרש"ב נ"ע מיוסד על מאמרי רז"ל בכמה מקומות, ועיין דברים נפלאים ומבהילים בהקדמת רבנו חיים וויטל תלמידו של האריז"ל ונדפס בההוספות לקונטרס האמור], וההתמדה ושקידה בלימוד האמור יוסיפו ג"כ בברכות השי"ת בכלל ובפרט בהמצטרך לו ולכל אלו שכותב אודותם, אשר בעת רצון יזכרו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

בודאי יודע משלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, ועכ"פ ישמור עליהם מכאן ולהבא.
