Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised that you make no allusion to the separation (note 1: Of men and women, which the recipient of this letter was to institute in his synagogue). But I have great hope that you are pursuing your action in this matter with the appropriate eagerness, considering the importance of what is at stake. As I said, the situation in this domain is the following: if this separation is not accomplished today, tomorrow it may perhaps be... (note 2: Impossible to avoid the negative consequences). To someone like you, there is no need to say more. Of course, I know the argument (note 3: Presented by those who oppose this separation) — the fact that there is no reason to suspect Jews (note 4: Of acting improperly due to the absence of this separation) — but it has already been said that one can apply, on this subject, the verse: "Do not present yourself as too virtuous" (note 5: By developing one's love of one's fellow beyond what is defined by the Torah and going, in this case, so far as to transgress its prohibitions). For it is clear that each of our Sages* was animated by a profound love for every Jew, and all of them, in their generation, perpetuated the tradition of Moshe our master, who himself loved the Jews. Despite this, they pronounced such a warning, in terms sharp as a sword. This is self-evident.

Furthermore, you inform me of the state of your wife, and may Hashem* grant that her pregnancy proceed well and easily, that she have a healthy child, at the proper time and with ease. With my respects and my blessing to convey good news of all this,

... לפלא שאין מזכיר דבר בשאלת ההפרדה, אף שתקותי חזקה שממשיך לפעול בזה ובמרץ המתאים, לערך חשיבות הענין, שהרי גם בזה המצב הוא כהנ"ל, ז.א. שבאם לא יפרידו היום, אפשר שלמחרתו ממש כבר יהי' כו' ובודאי לדכוותי' אין זקוקים לאריכות בזה.

מובן שגם לי ידועות הטענות, שאין להוציא לעז על בנ"י וכו' וכבר נאמר, שגם ע"ז נאמר אל תצדק הרבה, שהרי רז"ל - על כ"א מהם נאמר אוהב ישראל הוא (שהרי סמוכים הם מדור דור עד למשה רבנו שאוהב ישראל הי'), ובכ"ז הזהירו על האמור, ובביטוים כמדקרות חרב, וק"ל.

ולהודעתו אודות מצב זוגתו תחי', השי"ת ימלא ימי הריונה כשורה ובנקל ותלד זחו"ק בעתה ובזמנה כשורה ובקל.
